90 Day Fiancé can get pretty dramatic. The wild storylines and unrealistic situations are what keep fans coming back for more and watching spinoff after spinoff. But the more outrageous the situations get, the more people wonder whether the show is real or if some of what happens is crafted by TLC. Now, one former cast member is ready to expose the show.

Are some scenes on ’90 Day Fiancé’ staged?

Remember Cassia Tavares? She appeared on season 2 of the show with her fiancé Jason Hitch in 2014. Tavares has largely fallen off of the reality tv circuit in the years since the show aired. But now, she is coming forward about her experience with the franchise.

Tavares said the couples on the show are “real” couples but a lot of the rest of the show is not, according to Soap Dirt. While she did confirm that the show was not scripted, she did allege that production would do things like “creating scenarios to maximize drama between the couples.”

For example, once Tavares posted that she wasn’t feeling well online and a fan asked if she was pregnant. That was when production asked Tavares to take a pregnancy test while filming even though everyone already knew she wasn’t pregnant.

She also alleged that the show’s editing can get intense. On her season, she was shown telling Hitch that she wasn’t going to be at the airport to meet him. In reality, she told Hitch that she wouldn’t come to the airport if the cameras were there.

The stars are unhappy with edits

Tavares isn’t the only 90 Day Fiancé star to call the franchise out. Former castmates have come out to talk about the 90 Day Fiancé production process several times over the years. When a fan recently commented on Avery Warner of Before the 90 Days‘ personality, she defended herself and called out the show’s editing.

“Can’t always believe what you see on TV,” she wrote in an Instagram comment. “You guys get 5% of the real story, and that’s constructed how the network wants the people to view the person. I encourage everyone not to get so caught up with any kind of TV show as the truth, it’s not worth it lol, it’s all very constructed.”

Deavan Clegg from seasons 1 and 2 of The Other Way has also been upset with how the show has edited the scenes with her daughter. She recently claimed that the portrayal of her child had gotten so bad that she received threats.

“I’ve been upset with edits before,” she said on Instagram Live. “I haven’t been vocal about it too much. But the edits are just getting so bad on my daughter that it’s disgusting and it’s disheartening.”

Does TLC fake scenes?

On Season 6 of 90 Day Fiancé, Jay Smith and Ashley Martson almost broke up after Martson discovered that Smith had been on Tinder. Later, Smith revealed that the whole situation was fake.

“The Tinder incident that happened, that was staged because without drama you don’t have a show,” he told InTouch. “The Tinder scandal, it was just an act so it was easy to move [past it] because you know, we just act on the TV and after … that was it.”
