’90 Day Fiancé’: Fans Feel Horrible For Jihoon Lee’s Father After New Sneak Peek of ‘The Other Way’
Jihoon Lee dropped a bombshell on his wife, Deavan Clegg, on a recent episode of the second season of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way.
After Deavan arrived in South Korea—with her mom, Elicia, as well as her little ones, Drascilla and Taeyang, in tow—for the second time, Jihoon revealed that he hadn’t really secured a steady job, like he’d promised her. And when their one-month rental turned out to be in a dangerous area of Jihoon’s home country, the family of four had to resort once again to living with Jihoon’s parents under one (very small) roof.
This wasn’t the first time Jihoon lied to his wife about his finances, his mounting debt, his job, or even his criminal record.
In a new sneak peek of an upcoming episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Jihoon, Deavan, and Jihoon’s parents (Hong Ju, his father, and Jung, his mother) had a tense conversation about the reality of their difficult situation. 90 Day Fiancé fans immediately pointed out how ashamed Jihoon’s father looked of his son.
Jihoon’s dad apologized for his son’s behavior
In a preview clip of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Jihoon and Deavan used a translator app on Deavan’s smartphone to talk to Jihoon’s parents about their uncomfortable living situation.
“We are sorry about your guestroom, very small, and you have been come all the way,” Hong Ju told Deavan.
Jihoon’s father continued, apologizing to his daughter-in-law for his son’s irresponsibility and dishonesty. “We never sent you financial support. As his parents, we are sorry,” Hong Ju said sadly.
Using the translation app, a stricken-looking Deavan told Jihoon in no uncertain terms that his parents shouldn’t blame themselves. “It’s not your parents’ responsibility. It’s yours,” she told her husband.
Jihoon agreed and promised to change his ways. “I admit that I was wrong,” the 90 Day Fiancé star told his wife. “I’ll work hard so you don’t have to worry about money while you’re here and take care of the kids.”
But Deavan pointed out that actions spoke louder than words—and Jihoon’s actions rarely backed up his promises. “You said the exact same thing four months ago,” she lamented.
“I am very selfish. I am sorry,” her husband admitted.
Deavan asked where Jihoon’s money had gone
But Deavan still had more questions about Jihoon’s suspicious behavior over the past months. The 90 Day Fiancé star wanted to know why Jihoon had given his money from his part-time job to his mother instead of keeping it himself or giving it to his wife.
“Why is your money going into your mom’s bank account?” Deavan asked Jihoon.
Jihoon’s mother was silent, but Jihoon’s dad didn’t even seem to understand the situation himself. “What is this money that you gave to Mom?” he asked his son.
Jihoon answered sheepishly, “It’s the money I got from working that delivery job. I gave it to Mom for safekeeping.”
Hong Ju told Deavan and Jihoon that he thought her husband had wronged her by not helping her out with medical bills after giving birth to Taeyang.
“I think that was a mistake,” Jihoon’s father said, with deep sadness in his eyes. “She needed the money after giving birth in the hospital. So apologize for that.”
The 90 Day Fiancé star told Deavan, “I was afraid of making a mistake again. I didn’t want to waste that money.”
Of course, the translation app didn’t exactly improve matters. It translated Jihoon’s words: “I’ll make another mistake. I’ll waste that money again!”
“F*cking translator,” Jihoon complained to 90 Day Fiancé producers. “Getting worse! F*cking situation.”
’90 Day Fiancé’ fans felt pity for Jihoon’s father
Many 90 Day Fiancé fans thought Jihoon’s dad seemed ashamed of his son’s behavior in the preview clip.
“My heart was so heavy for his father,” one Instagram user wrote. “You could almost feel the hurt, embarrassment & shame in his eyes caused by his son.”
Another 90 Day Fiancé fan agreed, writing, “Ugh his poor parents feeling shame for his actions.”
“Awwwww his parents have sense at least but it seems this apple fell miles away,” another commenter added similarly.
“He has wonderful parents but he is a man baby,” one viewer lamented.
A few other commenters thought Jihoon’s mother should be harder on her son and hold him more accountable for his actions. “He has a respectable father,” one 90 Day Fiancé fan wrote of Jihoon. “His mother is literally babying him all the way.”
