’90 Day Fiancé’ Fans Turned David and Lana’s Hug Into a Sad 2020 Meme
Fans of 90 Day Fiancé spent most of the season watching David Murphey track down a woman he claimed he’s dated for seven years online. David Murphey revealed why he’s dated Russian women online
Murphey was open about having a history of dating women online who are from Russia. He answered in an Instagram Q&A on why he chooses to date like this.
“When the internet was brand new, a tenant of mine showed me a website where you could meet Russian and Filipino women,” he wrote in a Q&A on Instagram. “I had an interest in Russians. Within months, the Ukrainian women on the site outnumbered the Russians. I went to both countries. A few years later, Ukraine became more Western-like and you didn’t even need a visa to go there. Russia requires a visa and you have to register everywhere you go. It was just harder to travel in.”
He also wrote about when he stopped dating women from America. “I stopped dating in the USA 15 years ago,” he wrote. “Every time I did I would start thinking about Ukraine, so I stopped trying so my heart was free just in case I went to Ukraine. I have dated well over 100 women in Ukraine. Turned down many marriage proposals and have been turned down twice myself.”
He has been trying to find Lana
Murphey has spent most of the season trying to find a woman he’s been chatting with online for seven years. He failed to meet her multiple times even though he went to her address. There was an elderly man who lived there so he tried a different tactic.
Murphey hired a private investigator after his fourth failed attempt to meet her. The investigator claimed he is being scammed so he fired him.
He finally got to meet Lana in the episode “The Pleasure Principle.” We find out her name is Svetlana and she’s 28 years old. She now lives in Kiev.
We find out that she hasn’t had many relationships in the past so she registered for the site. She claimed that she wrote to Murphey first because she liked his picture. Svetlana said they both love traveling, and he has a great sense of humor.
A producer asked her why she is interested in talking to foreigners. “I have never been in the U.S. but I dream to visit there,” she said. “I want to see the country of great opportunities. David lives in Las Vegas.I know that there are many casinos, a lot of bright lights.”

They also just tweeted commenting on the awkward moment. “Lmfao this hug between Lana and David wins the season. LMFAOOOOOOOO,” tweeted one fan.
Someone else also tweeted a theory about Lana’s situation with the picture. “When you’re forced to meet the man you’re scamming so you can keep getting free money #90DayFiance,” tweeted a fan.
Fans will have to keep watching to see where Murphey and Lana will go from here. For now, it doesn’t look like fans have a lot of hope for them.
