90 Day Fiancé is no stranger to drama. When it comes to the personal relationships depicted on the show, emotions tend to run high. And sometimes, fans get worried about what they see. One example would be the relationship between Avery Mills and Omar Albakour.

Albakour and Mills have butted heads about a variety of Mills’ behaviors, especially in public. To many fans, it seems as if Albakour wants to control how Mills lives her life. Mills is sick of hearing it, however, and has decided to speak out.

Does Omar try to control Avery?

90 Day Fiancé star Omar Albakour received some flak from fans who thought he might be too controlling. In the past, he’s tried to curtail certain quirks and behaviors of Avery Mills. 19-year-old Mills converted to Islam and met Omar Albakour on a Muslim dating application.

She and Albakour married on their first encounter, and Mills decided that if Albakour couldn’t get his visa processed in America, she’d leave to live with him in Syria. One specific encounter that had fans raising their eyebrows was Omar Albakour’s request that Mills not dance in the street.

“I don’t like it when you dance in public. It’s not good to see girl dance in street…wherever,” Albakour told Mills on an episode of 90 Day Fiancé.

Albakour also told cameras that when he and Mills argue, Mills should simply be quiet. Mills took to Instagram to dispel rumors that Albakour is controlling.

“I do have to say something I don’t usually respond to. Any comments — I hate when people say Omar is controlling,” said Mills on Instagram Live. “I’m sorry, but Omar asked me not to dance in the street because it’s not normal. It’s not being controlling.”

She continued, “To be honest, people have their preferences. If he doesn’t want someone that dances in the street, trust me, it’s fine — we do enough dancing at home!”

Does Omar love Avery?

Meanwhile, some fans aren’t convinced that Omar Albakour truly loves Avery Mills. When Mills got on the plane to head back to America, Albakour looked rather stoic. When he was asked about his lack of emotion, he explained that he believes men should be essentially emotionless and strong, compared to how emotional he believes women are.

Mills also addressed these concerns on Instagram. She told fans, “For someone to say that Omar does not love me, [that person] does not know Omar.”

“He is the most loving person ever. Yeah, he’s shy, and he’s shy when he’s getting recorded for international TV shows — which, I bet, a lot more people would be shy too — but get you a man that sings Ed Sheeran to you, that plays with your hair any time, that spoils you with love and, you know, anything that you want,” she continued. “Get someone that will protect you at all costs and maybe you’ll know how much Omar loves me.”

Mills concluded, “And last but not least, if you don’t like me, then that’s a personal problem.”

Committed to Omar Albakour

While Avery Mills has been dealing with fan backlash, she’s also dealing with moving to Syria. She seems committed to making the move to be with Albakour.

After landing in the U.S. following her marriage, Mills told cameras, “I’m going — and I’m not coming back [to the U.S.] until he comes with me. I don’t want to hurt them, but it’s something I’ve got to do.”

Mills’ mother, Terri, said, “Now that I’ve met Omar, I’m glad she married him. I just don’t want her to live in Syria.”
