On 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa have been dealing with a whole lot of drama. With their marriage on the line, and issues with Asuelu’s family over money, things seem to be going downhill for the couple. After going to therapy, the couple is trying to move forward together, but it’s still been tough.

This week, Kalani and Asuelu go out for dinner and drinks, just the two of them. Kalani takes the opportunity to have them complete their homework assignment for therapy, and it’s a real eye-opener.

A few weeks have gone by since Asuelu’s family came to visit their family in Utah. The trip was of course eventful when the couple got their families together for a talk. However, everything seemed surprisingly restrained, and Kalani even received an apology from Lesina, Asuelu’s mother.

“After Washington, I really just felt like our marriage was over, and there was not really any hope,” Kalani says to the cameras. “But now that we’ve been back, we’ve gone to therapy, we’ve had family meetings, so I feel like we’re taking like adult steps in our relationship, and it’s been helping us.”

At dinner, the couple makes a toast together. They even hold hands while seated at their table, and when their server comes to check on them, Kalani asks for two pens and some paper. Asuelu asks why she needs pens, and Kalani says, “‘Cause we’re gonna do our homework right now.”

Kalani is referring to the homework the couple received from their therapist. “Since we’ve been to therapy, Asuelu’s been opening up more, and having more conversations, and coming around my family more,” Kalani says. “But the therapist gave us some homework that we didn’t have the opportunity to do.”

Kalani and Asuelu discuss what they think their household duties should be

Kalani tells Asuelu to write down her name on one side of the page, and his name on the other. Under each name, they are supposed to write what their household duties should each be. They get to work, and eventually exchange papers to look at the other’s answers.

First, Kalani reads off what Asuelu thinks are duties and chores for him specifically: “Clean the house in and out, look after the kids, do my own laundry, clean my dishes, do trash in and out.” Then, Kalani reads what Asuelu thinks her duties are. “Then for me, you have feed the babies, clean your mess, do trash properly, do laundry and dishes, and rest,” Kalani reads off.

“So you’re going to do your own things, and I’m going to do me and the babies,” Kalani says as she laughs. Kalani seems annoyed, and Asuelu says he can’t feed the children. “Your list is things for you, and then on my list, it’s doing like laundry and dishes for me and the babies. That’s still me taking care of two more people, and then for you it’s just yourself.”

Asuelu asks what Kalani wants him to do, and she tells him she needs him to watch their children, which Asuelu insists he’s already doing. Asuelu goes over the list Kalani made, which has down for both of them to watch the kids. Asuelu starts checking off the stuff on both sides, such as washing dishes and vacuuming.

“My list is saying basically everything that I do, I would like you to do too,” Kalani explains. “That we can split everything in the house. Not you doing your things and me doing my stuff and the kids.”

Asuelu mentions that he mows the lawn and cleans up the apples in the yard. “OK, you could leave all of those apples outside,” Kalani says. “I would not care. I would rather you help in the house, because apples being raked does nothing for my life.” Kalani then mentions that when it comes time to do the apple raking, they can do it together, and that they will also watch their kids together.

Kalani wants them to be “equal” when it comes to what they each do. Asuelu says “OK,” and mentions that he wants to make her happy and be with her for his entire life.

It’s extremely eye-opening, and they need to get on the same page if they’re going to make this marriage work. “The homework assignment basically revealed that we’re in the same place that we were when we went to therapy, where Asuelu thinks I’m responsible for myself and the kids, and he’s responsible for himself,” Kalani tells the cameras. “So, clearly we’re going to have to iron that out. But, there’s some kind of hope in our relationship, and we haven’t had that…”

We’ll have to see how things go for Kalani and Asuelu in the upcoming Tell All.
