What exactly is going on between Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa?

Over the past episodes, Kalani and Asuelu have been caught in a back-and-forth between Asuelu’s mom and sister Tammy due to their request for $1,000.

Asuelu initially wanted to honor the request, citing the Samoan tradition of a young adult supporting their parents. But after Kalani pointed out their own financial obligations, he and Kalani came to an agreement that they would instead give $100 and a few gifts to show their love and appreciation.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough for his family. They argued about it across several episodes without ever coming to a resolution.

On the Aug. 23 episode, Kalani went to talk to Tammy and Asuelu’s sister alone to try to get them to understand their stance. But they doubled down on their position. The meet-up ended with Tammy trying to attack Kalani for her refusal to provide more financial support.

Later in the episode, Kalani went to vent to Asuelu about the altercation. At first, he seemed upset, but after Kalani mentioned that she would have fought back if Tammy had touched her, he started to tease her.

“What about if my sister knock you out?” he asked. “If you try to do that, my sister will not knock out.”

“I think you’re missing the point,” Kalani replied. “I’m saying if your sister would have touched a freakin’ molecule on my body, I would have dropped her. Period. So shut the hell up. Now you’re pissing me off because you’ve turned this whole thing into whether or not, who can beat up who.”

But despite how irritated she was, Asuelu continued to challenge Kalani.

“I think you’re f*cking crazy,” he said.

As she rolled her eyes and left the room, Asuelu continued to berate her, calling her a “f*cking a**hole.”

As he continued to vent, Kalani moved into another room with her sister Kolini to let her in on what had just happened between them. She came to tears as she spoke about the state of their marriage and shared her belief that Asuelu would never change.

“This is just crazy, and I think it’s just always going to be crazy,” she said, with tears rolling down her face. “Like I see progress and I have hope thinking that I’ll be able to fix or change things and I’m not going to be able to. … I just need to think about what I want to do ’cause I can’t f*cking live like this. This is insane.”

She echoed those sentiments in a confessional, telling cameras, “I do feel like I love him still. I just feel like everyday it’s getting less and less. And I feel like if it keeps continuing on like this, I won’t want to be a part of this marriage anymore.”

Echoing that, a second person wrote: “Kalani just needs to divorce Asuelu. Say bye to him and his crazy family.”
