’90 Day Fiancé’: Michael Reveals Whether or Not He’ll Leave Angela If She’s Infertile in New Sneak Peek
90 Day Fiancé fans know that Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi have been talking about being able to “tote a baby” together since the beginning of their relationship.
But, at 54, Angela wasn’t sure that would be possible. And after visiting a gynecologist, she found out that she might even have uterine cancer.
Luckily, Angela and Michael got good news about Angela’s cancer-free status on a recent episode of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After. Still, their relationship was in jeopardy after 31-year-old Michael, who hails from Lagos, Nigeria, found out that he might not be able to have a biological child with his American bride-to-be.
In a new sneak peek of an upcoming 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After episode, Michael revealed his decision about whether or not he would ultimately stay with Angela if they couldn’t have a child together.
Angela asked Michael to let her know whether he would stay with her if she was infertile
After Angela found out from her doctor in a previous episode that she (very fortunately) didn’t have cancer, Michael wanted to know if having a baby was still a possibility. Angela’s doctor let the couple know that even carrying a pregnancy to term at Angela’s age would be risky to her health, as well as to her unborn child’s, even with an egg donor.
Distraught by the news, Michael admitted that he wasn’t completely sure he wanted to marry Angela. In his cultural context, he could take on other wives or a concubine in order to have a biological child (while still being married to Angela). But she, of course, was hearing none of it.
In the new 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After sneak peek, Michael and Angela headed out on a boat ride and discussed the sensitive topic. If Michael had any doubts, Angela confessed, she wasn’t sure she would be able to marry him at all.
“Michael said he needed time to think about whether or not he wanted to be with me,” the grandmother of six told 90 Day Fiancé producers. “And I get where he’s coming from—that it’s important for him to have a baby. But he needs to figure out by now, does he want to marry me, or does he not? It’s time to s*it or get off the pot.”
The ’90 Day Fiancé’ star was worried about the risks to her health if she tried to ‘tote a baby’
Angela asked Michael, point blank, if he would harbor resentment or regrets if they weren’t able to have a child together.
“You’re not gonna regret marrying me if I can’t?” the 90 Day Fiancé star wanted to know. “Because if you have any doubts, then I need to figure something out.”
Michael reminded Angela of just how badly he wanted to have a child. Both for himself personally and within his culture and family, it was crucial for him to do so.
“You know how important it is for me to be a father and to have my own kids,” Michael began.
“I told you, we’ll try,” Angela promised. “But, you know, I already got so many complications in my life, Michael.”
Angela made sure to remind Michael that she couldn’t make any promises when it came to children. In addition to caring for her aging mother, her adult daughter, and her many grandchildren—all of whom lived with her full-time—there was her age to consider, as well as the health risks a pregnancy could pose.
In order to carry a baby to term, Angela explained, she would have to lose weight, get her heart checked by a cardiologist, and quit smoking. All of that would take time, and it still wasn’t guaranteed even if she tried her best.
“I got to make sure, Michael, that if I can’t do it after we get married and we’ve tried every option, you won’t just leave me because I can’t have a baby,” the 90 Day Fiancé star said. “I can’t take that stress and that anxiety.”
Michael told Angela that he loved her and would be with her, with or without a baby
Michael admitted that imagining himself without any biological children of his own deeply saddened him. He had never pictured his future without children in it.
“I picture myself in the future, you know? Being the father of my child, playing with him or her,” he told 90 Day Fiancé producers wistfully. “It’s a joyous thing for a man to have his own child. So, it’s been difficult thinking about being with Angela without a baby.”
“I’ll do everything possible to make it happen,” Angela promised her future husband. “But it’s just scary.”
Despite his reservations, Michael finally assured Angela that he would marry her, whether or not she could have a biological child with him.
“I know it’s scary, and I know we have our ups and downs, but you know, deep down, I love you,” Michael told his bride-to-be. “Even if you don’t have a child, I’m going to stick by you.”
Angela looked positively relieved at the news. After all, she and Michael were planning to celebrate their wedding in Nigeria in just a few weeks’ time.
“Well, that does ease my mind a lot,” she said. “Thank you, baby.”
