When they first appeared on the seventh season of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé, Tania Maduro and Syngin Colchester’s relationship became notorious for several reasons—namely, Tania’s controversial 30-day trip to Costa Rica for a holistic medicine workshop and the infamous “soulmate” incident.

Tania told Syngin, who hails from South Africa, that she didn’t have the “full soulmate feeling” with him. The 30-year-old even sometimes wondered if her first love was her soulmate.

Needless to say, 30-year-old Syngin was heartbroken to hear that his bride-to-be didn’t consider him her soulmate. But the now-married couple, currently appearing on the fifth season of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, seems to have resolved that perennial question—at least according to Tania’s recent comments on Instagram.

Syngin told Tania how much he loved her on Instagram

Syngin and Tania have greatly struggled in their marriage on recent episodes of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After—even fighting openly in front of Syngin’s family and friends in South Africa and coming to the point of considering divorce. But, in a recent Instagram post in Sept. 2020, it seemed that the couple was doing just fine.

Tania has always been open about her love of travel, natural medicine, and a holistic lifestyle. In her recent post, she showed off all three in a relaxed selfie in her home.

“Me. A peace lily I’m [rehabilitating]. Two of 3 statues I bought in Positano, Italy,” Tania captioned the snapshot. “Some incense. Elephants facing certain direction for good luck. A Tradescantia plant. We’re just living and chilling. Hope you’re enjoying your Thursday night.”

Syngin gushed about his wife in the comments of Tania’s Instagram post, writing sweetly, “I love who you are.”

“So much deeper,” Tania wrote back, dispelling any rumors about their possible current estrangement. “Love who you are too baby!”

Tania explained the infamous ‘soulmate’ issue to critics and curious fans

In response to Syngin’s loving comment, a few 90 Day Fiancé fans pushed back against Tania’s onscreen behavior. Several critics brought up Tania’s notorious remarks about Syngin not being her “soulmate,” which indicated to some that they shouldn’t be together at all.

But Tania addressed the issue head-on instead of ignoring it, telling one critic that she simply had a different view of the concept of soulmates.

“I don’t romanticize the world soul-mate like you were taught to do,” she wrote.

Another Instagram user wrote to Tania of Syngin, “He was obviously devastated when you told him you already found your soulmate and it wasn’t him.”

Tania admitted that her husband had indeed been heartbroken when he found out they didn’t see eye to eye about the notion of soulmates. But, since then, she argued, she’d changed her mind about her own concept of the term.

“Yes he was,” Tania replied to the curious fan. “And I said I felt he was my soulmate – when my whole understanding of the term was different. I think we can have multiple soulmates and they don’t have to be just romantic partners. They can be friends, pets, coworkers, roommates.”

The ’90 Day Fiancé’ star also pushed back against viewers’ criticism

Of course, that wasn’t the only pushback Tania received on her Instagram post. Several 90 Day Fiancé fans also wanted to know why Tania was so insistent that Syngin wasn’t ready to find direction and stability in life, when (to them) she didn’t seem too stable, either.

“So much emphasis on pushing Syngin down his life path and criticizing for not having direction. One thing I haven’t heard or seen is what you are doing? What is your career path? Why not focus on your own goals?” one critic wanted to know.

But Tania held her own as usual, pointing out that her intensive in Costa Rica was meant to be part of her “new venture of holistic health.” She noted, too, that she already worked in “operations and logistics.”

Since then, Syngin’s wife pointed out, she had been in a debilitating car accident and had to work through multiple injuries. And because Syngin couldn’t get his work permit at first, they had struggled to make ends meet, making it difficult for her to “dig full-time into learning holistic healing.”

No matter what fans might think about Tania and Syngin’s relationship, it’s evident from their ongoing social media banter that they are most likely still very much together—“soulmate issue” and all.
