Ariela went to Ethiopia to deliver her baby

Early this season on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Ariela revealed that she was going to Ethiopia to have her baby because she wanted Biniyam to be there for the delivery. She tried to find a way for him to come to the United States, but she decided to move back to his country when all avenues failed.

“I consulted with several lawyers hoping that Binny would be able to move to the U.S. to be with me in time for the birth of our son, and all of them told me that it would be a very difficult and long process,” Ariela told producers. “I think it’s really important for both parents to be present at the birth. So the only way we can do that is by me moving to Ethiopia.”

Ariela had big plans for her delivery in Ethiopia. Her parents were supposed to fly closer to her due date to be there for moral support. But when she visited the doctor just after settling into her new apartment with Biniyam, she was told she needed an emergency c-section.

On her last prenatal care visit, doctors told her the baby was breech. And with her follow-up ultrasound, her physician discovered that her baby was still breech and that her amniotic fluid was low.

“You are going to deliver by cesarean section,” her doctor explained. “We will not wait.”

“So when would I have to have the baby?” Ariela replied.

“Today,” the doctor suggested, leaving Ariela in a state of shock and panic.

After discovering the baby’s breech position and low amniotic fluid, Ariela’s doctors rushed her into the operating room. But as they tried to give her spinal anesthesia, Ariela started crying and refused to allow them to administer it.

“I’m very scared,” a concerned Biniyam told 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way producers. “Her life and the baby’s life, that’s what I’m thinking about.”

When Ariela was unable to calm herself, her doctors gave her general anesthesia. They were able to complete the c-section procedure. And Ariela ended up Ariela giving birth to her baby boy while she was still under the effects of anesthesia.

But upon seeing the baby, Biniyam noticed that he wasn’t crying. “When I saw my baby’s body being pulled from the stomach, I felt so good, but I was waiting anxiously for him to breathe,” the 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star said in a confessional.

A nurse noted an issue with the baby’s respiration rate moments after birth. But within a few minutes, the newborn let out his first cry, allowing Biniyam to breathe a sigh of relief.

“When the child started crying, I started smiling immediately,” he said. “I breathed. I was so happy.”
