90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way stars Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh have been dating for a long time. But Sumit’s parents’ refusal to accept Jenny has remained their biggest relationship hurdle. After being lambasted by Sumit’s mom and dad about her age for nearly eight years, Jenny finally agreed to meet with them.
The ’90 Day Fiancé’ couple has been together for nearly a decade
For two seasons, 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way fans have seen Jenny and Sumit navigate personal issues as well as their larger family problems. Their relationship began with Sumit catfishing Jenny by pretending to be a British man. And for years, he kept his arranged marriage a secret from her.
On top of that, Jenny is nearly twice Sumit’s age, and his parents are dead against him being with someone that much older. But in a June 2020 press interview, Jenny revealed that the two have managed to stick together for almost a decade despite the odds.
“Sumit and I, our relationship has always been Sumit and I,” Jenny said, as reported by E! News. “We’re still in a relationship. He was married. The marriage wasn’t his choice. He didn’t want to be married.”
“Sumit and I are not done with each other,” she added. “We’re just not done with each other. We’re in this relationship, going on nine years. We’ve invested a lot into this relationship, and we love each other — if people don’t like it then that’s the way it is.”
Sumit’s parents know Jenny pretty well
Earlier on this season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Sumit’s parents, Sahna and Anil, recalled first meeting Jenny in 2013. They revealed that she stayed with them for four months while visiting India. But the whole time, they were under the impression that Sumit and Jenny were just friends.
“She (Jenny) told us she was his Facebook friend and she want to visit India,” Anil told producers. “She want to live with us, I said, ‘Okay.’”
“I treated her well,” Sahna added. “I showed her a lot of love.”
Anil noted that Jenny and Sahna became fast friends during that visit. “Jenny and my wife, they were talking to each other,” he said. “They were spending very good times with each other.”
But when Sahna and Anil discovered Sumit and Jenny were involved romantically, they refused to accept it. And since then, they’ve done whatever they could to keep Sumit and Jenny apart.
On ’90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way,’ Jenny and Sumit’s parents meet after 8 years
On a recent episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Sumit invited his parents over to talk about his plans to marry Jenny. But Jenny pointed out that the last time she saw them was a year before, when they burst into her apartment and took Amit away.
“I’ve avoided seeing Sumit’s parents ever since that time,” Jenny said in a confessional. “It’s been about eight years since I’ve had a real conversation with Sumit’s parents. So I don’t know if they’re going to accept me this time or not. I’m hoping that they will, but I have no idea how they’re going to react.”
But when Sahna and Anil arrived, they revealed how much disdain they still held for Jenny.
“This is our first time visiting,” Sahna told cameras. “We didn’t want to come because of Jenny. We don’t like her. I don’t like him staying with Jenny, never did, and never will.”
Jenny welcomed Sahna into her home and even complimented her on how beautiful she looked. Sahna replied with a dry, “Thank you,” but it was clear she wasn’t there to exchange any niceties.
