’90 Day Fiancé’: Why Sumit’s Brother Says Their Parents Still Don’t Want Sumit and Jenny to Be Together
On 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Jenny Slatten and Sumit are certainly one of the most memorable couples in the series. Their relationship has been full of drama from the start. In the beginning, Sumit was actually catfishing Jenny and using someone else’s images, but Jenny decided to be with Sumit anyways. Things have only gotten worse though, now that Jenny knows that Sumit was already married in an arranged marriage.
Jenny learned the truth about Sumit’s marriage after leaving her entire life behind to be with him. Sumit is in the process of divorcing his current wife, since he wants to be with Jenny, but his parents don’t approve of their union. Jenny is 62 and Sumit is 32, and their age difference has been a major problem for Sumit’s family.
Sumit’s parents don’t approve of Sumit and Jenny’s relationship
Jenny and Sumit are trying to make things work, even though things have been difficult considering Sumit’s parents are against it. With three decades separating Jenny and Sumit in age, they’re dealing with a lot of criticism from people, especially Sumit’s parents who don’t approve due to the major age difference.
The couple plans to get married, but Sumit still needs to be officially divorced from his wife first. In season 2, Jenny learns that Sumit has actually started the divorce paperwork, since she went to speak with his lawyer with her own questions about the whole thing. The lawyer says both parties agree on divorce and that it’s in motion.
Why Sumit’s brother says their parents don’t want Sumit and Jenny to be together
Jenny and Sumit sit down to dinner with Sumit’s brother, Amit, in hopes that they can win him over to their side. The last time Jenny saw Amit, he was there when Sumit’s parents showed up to take Sumit away from Jenny and back home. It was a very stressful time for the couple.
The dinner is awkward to say the least, and Sumit asks about their parents. Amit says they are doing OK. Sumit then asks if his brother has tried to talk to his parents for him.
“Yes, of course,” Amit says. “But they don’t want you guys to be together. I’m sorry for that, but the big thing is the age factor between you guys. This can impact our dignity, our social circle, and society.”
Jenny says Sumit’s happiness is also important. “Don’t you want your brother to be happy too?” Jenny asks Amit, who admits he does.
“I believe that everybody wants everybody to be happy,” Sumit says. “My parents want me to be happy. But they want them to be happy. And they want society to be happy. They want family to be happy. For others to be happy.”
Amit asks Jenny to meet his parents
Jenny tells him she isn’t going anywhere. Amit asks Jenny if she will come to their home and meet their parents. Sumit says he’s tried to talk to them about things before, and it didn’t go well. There was a lot of fighting involved.
“If I’m going to meet my parents, I feel afraid, like they will say that I need to choose my parents or Jenny. I cannot just choose one or another. Like I’m loving Jenny. I will marry Jenny. And the same time, I don’t want to lose my family,” Sumit tells the cameras.
Amit says he will speak to his parents, and hopefully there will be a calm conversation between everyone about Jenny and Sumit’s relationship. Can they win over Sumit’s parents? Maybe there is a happy ending coming for these two after all.
