Jenny and Sumit are trying to make things work, even though things have been difficult considering Sumit’s parents are against it. With three decades separating Jenny and Sumit in age, they’re dealing with a lot of criticism from people, especially Sumit’s parents who don’t approve due to the major age difference.

The couple plans to get married, but Sumit still needs to be officially divorced from his wife first. In season 2, Jenny learns that Sumit has actually started the divorce paperwork, since she went to speak with his lawyer with her own questions about the whole thing. The lawyer says both parties agree on divorce and that it’s in motion.

Why Sumit’s brother says their parents don’t want Sumit and Jenny to be together

Jenny and Sumit sit down to dinner with Sumit’s brother, Amit, in hopes that they can win him over to their side. The last time Jenny saw Amit, he was there when Sumit’s parents showed up to take Sumit away from Jenny and back home. It was a very stressful time for the couple.

The dinner is awkward to say the least, and Sumit asks about their parents. Amit says they are doing OK. Sumit then asks if his brother has tried to talk to his parents for him.

“Yes, of course,” Amit says. “But they don’t want you guys to be together. I’m sorry for that, but the big thing is the age factor between you guys. This can impact our dignity, our social circle, and society.”

Jenny says Sumit’s happiness is also important. “Don’t you want your brother to be happy too?” Jenny asks Amit, who admits he does.

“I believe that everybody wants everybody to be happy,” Sumit says. “My parents want me to be happy. But they want them to be happy. And they want society to be happy. They want family to be happy. For others to be happy.”
