Alina thought The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was a cult

20-year-old Alina met 25-year-old Steven on a language exchange app while living in Eastern Europe for a mission trip. The two hit it off online, but things became difficult after she found out he’s a Mormon. Steven said, “She found out I was a Mormon, and in Russia, they kind of see us as a cult. So she was super nervous, and she didn’t even want to meet up with me because she was afraid that I was gonna sell her organs.”

After Steven finally convinced Alina to go out on a real-life date, the two connected immediately. They spent two weeks together before he went home to the US. After 2 years of talking virtually every day, the young couple looks forward to starting their lives together. Steven explained that a huge part of his life is a member of the LDS church. He said, “My faith has always been superbly important to me.”

As per their tourist visas, Steven and Alina will be meeting in Turkey, where they will have 90 days to get married. Of course, Steven’s family is nervous that they don’t know each other well enough to get married, as they’ve only been together in person for two weeks.

Just days before his move to Turkey, Steven’s brother asked him, “What if Alina doesn’t want to become a Mormon?” To which he replies, “She has done a lot on her own by finding out about the church, but I don’t think it would work out if she wasn’t willing to convert and accept the faith.”

Will Steven’s secret cause Alina to be hesitant about converting?

On the episode that aired on Sunday, August 28th which aired on discovery+, Steven said he’s been hiding something from his fiancée. He tells the cameras, “I’m the best example of a church member that she knows, but I haven’t lived a perfect life. Up until this point, I haven’t been totally candid with her.”
