A Freak Accident Involved Brandy Contributing to This Immature Group Member’s Wearing An Eye Patch
Immature is a group we haven’t heard from in a while. The boy band rose to prominence in the 1990s and were heartthrobs for young girls all around the world. They eventually went there separate ways and band member Marques Houston had the most solo success with chart-topping singles and movie roles.
The group has reunited and are currently on The TB Tour, featuring B5, J Holiday and Day 26. While promoting the upcoming tour, the group spoke with Nick Cannon on his radio show about their history and shared some inside secrets. One of the tidbits revealed was about member Romeo, and how a physical freak accident involving Brandy led to him wearing an eye patch.
Who is Immature?
Immature is a three-member R&B boy band. The group’s members are managed Marques “Batman” Houston, Jerome “Romeo” Jones, and Kelton “LDB” Kessee. An original member, Don “Half Pink” Santos, was later replaced by Kessee. The Los Angeles natives released four albums under the Immature moniker including On Our Worst Behavior in 1992, Playtyme Is Over in 1994, We Got It in 1995 and The Journey.
In 1999, in celebration of their 10 year anniversary and transitioning from boyhood to manhood, the group changed its name to IMx and released two studio albums – Introducing IMx and IMx, as well as a Greatest Hits album in 2001. They also played a pivotal role in developing their “brother” group, B2K.
IMX disbanded in 2002 before attempting a comeback in 2010.
Immature’s Romeo says an incident involving Brandy left him blind in one eye
Immature and Brandy were relatively close when they were just starting out their careers. They were both managed by Chris Stokes and toured together, thus spending most of their time together on the road. Like most teenagers, there was a lot of roughhousing that occurred between them all but one day of fun and games led to a severe injury for Immature member, Romeo.
According to Romeo, the eye patch he’s become famous for wearing is not a fashion accessory. In the 90s, there was a rumor spread that he was blind in one eye and it was due to an incident that involved Brandy. Though he never spoke on it then, he recently confirmed in an interview with Nick Cannon that the rumor is true.
“Her and Half Pint had got into it. She had a book in her hand, just tossed it back, not thinking anyone or I was that close,” Romeo explained. “[The book] cut my retina, detached it. And the lens to the eye had fell out and Brandon Adams caught it.”
The damage was done and Romeo eventually had three eye surgeries to correct his eye. He alluded to the incident in his song “Look Down On Me” years ago but never addressed it until now. Romeo admitted in the same interview that Brandy felt horrible about what happened and that he has forgiven the songstress.
