‘A Million Little Things’: Is Gary the Father of Darcy’s Baby? James Roday Rodriguez Comments on His Past Relationship
ABC’s A Million Little Things shocked Gary Mendez (James Roday Rodriguez) and fans with the news that Darcy Cooper (Floriana Lima) is pregnant. After a breakup in episode 4 and a six-month time jump, Gary ran into Darcy at a local bakery. She explained that she rekindled her romance with her ex-husband and Liam’s (Mattia Castrillo) father, Stephen (Derek Richardson). Rodriguez gave a definitive answer about whether Gary could be the father in a recent interview.
Why did Gary and Darcy break up in ‘A Million Little Things’?
Gary and Darcy met in A Million Little Things Season 2 Episode 16, “Change of plans,” at an arcade with Theo (Tristan Byon) and Darcy’s son, Liam (Mattia Castrillo). They dated throughout A Million Little Things Season 3, and things became more serious. However, the couple broke up in season 4 episode 4, “Pinocchio,” when Darcy found out what Gary did to Peter Benoit (Andrew Leeds). Although Gary didn’t assault Peter, he was involved the night of the attack. Darcy refused to hear anything about it and insisted they break up so that Liam wouldn’t ever have to see Gary taken away in handcuffs.
After a six-month time jump, Gary ran into Darcy in episode 6, only to find that she is pregnant. Darcy explains that she rekindled her romance with her ex-husband, Stephen and that he is the baby’s father. When Gary explains the situation to his friends, he emphasizes that the math checks out. In the Dec. 1 episode, Stephen visits Gary’s apartment to bring Liam home. That’s when Gary finds out that the baby is a girl.

Rodriguez commented on Gary’s state of mind after the A Million Little Things winter finale in a recent interview. However, he didn’t mention the baby.
“I wouldn’t say Gary closed the door,” Rodriguez told TV Insider. “I would say it was closed for him very firmly, and rightfully so. I think he’s feeling the effects of that, knowing that no matter how hard he pushes or jiggles the lock, it’s not going to open again.”
The actor emphasizes that Gary’s relationship with Darcy is entirely over in that interview. Then, he added similar comments to another outlet.
“That door is officially closed with Darcy, I think, and any closure that he might have been looking for has been had,” Roday Rodriguez told TV Guide. “His reality is that a new chapter is about to begin.”
It sounds like Gary and Darcy are over. However, the actor did not comment on whether Gary could be the baby’s father. Since he didn’t mention Darcy’s baby at all, It’s still a possibility.
When is ‘A Million Little Things’ Season 4 coming back?
After the A Million Little Things Season 4 winter finale, many viewers want to know when the show returns. Sadly, the break is longer than anyone expected. A Million Little Things Season 4 returns on Feb. 23, 2022, with episode 9, “Any Way the Wind Blows.”
When the series returns, Maggie Bloom (Allison Miller) and Gary continue their drive to Albany to visit the person sending Maggie disturbing letters. However, in the promo, there is no mention of Darcy. It might be a while until viewers find out whether Stephen or Gary is the father of Darcy’s baby.
