Many fans first got to know Taylor-Johnson when he appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Avengers: Age of Ultron. He portrayed Pietro Maximoff, twin brother of Wanda, who joins up with the titular villain to take on the Avengers. Eventually, they switch sides, but Pietro dies during battle.

While he didn’t receive too many mentions in the MCU post-Age of Ultron, Quicksilver finally got his mourning period in WandaVision. In the Disney+ series, Wanda reflects on her brother’s death. A fake Pietro then surfaces, played in a funny twist by Evan Peters, who portrayed a different Quicksilver in Fox’s X-Men universe.

He’s also known for ‘Kick-Ass’ and ‘Godzilla’

Taylor-Johnson began acting when he was a child. After getting his start in the theater, he appeared in minor roles in films such as Shanghai Knights and The Illusionist. In addition to a few TV gigs, his starring role in the teen romantic-comedy Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging earned him attention in his native U.K.

However, the film that really got Taylor-Johnson recognized internationally was Kick-A**. The 2010 superhero flick garnered positive reviews as a darker take on the genre amidst the rise of the MCU. He returned for the 2013 sequel. Taylor-Johnson also starred opposite Olsen in Godzilla.

Taylor-Johnson worked with Sam Taylor-Johnson

Before Kick-A** debuted and made him a star, Taylor-Johnson worked with his future wife on Nowhere Boy, a John Lennon biopic. At the time known as Sam Taylor-Wood, the photographer and filmmaker made her debut with the drama, which received positive reviews and multiple BAFTA nominations.

The pair worked together after getting married, too. They wrote the screenplay for A Million Little Pieces, based on the controversial book of the same name. Additionally, he starred in the film while she directed it. The couple’s third film together, Rothko, is in pre-production as of April 2021.
