Addison Rae Easterling is one of the most popular stars on TikTok. She has millions of followers online and is making a name for herself in other parts of social media as well.

However, fame is not all sunshine and roses. Easterling recently opened up about a scary experience she encountered because of her popularity.

How Addison Rae became famous

Easterling joined TikTok in July 2019, and she began posting dance videos on the platform. She once shared that her first video did not get a whole lot of attention, but her second video quickly went viral.

Easterling’s popularity grew considerably after that. In just a few months, she had acquired 1 million followers.

She has since expanded her work beyond TikTok. For example, she started a podcast with her mother, Sheri Easterling, as well as a YouTube channel. She also ventured into music with acting; she recently released her debut single, “Obsessed,” and will be starring in the upcoming film He’s All That.

Addison Rae’s fame led to a scary experience

Easterling is becoming very well-known, and her popularity is not slowing down anytime soon. However, she has had some unusual moments happen because of her fame.

On a recent episode of the podcast, That Was Fun?, Easterling sat down with fellow influencer Avani Gregg to talk about their lives as social media stars. When the topic turned to boundaries that people sometimes cross, Easterling opened up about a scary experience in her life.

“When I first moved to L.A., I lived in Tarzana,” Easterling said before clarifying she no longer lives in the house she is referring to. “I think it was midnight… I just heard something—like a car door slam really loud and in front of my house.”

She didn’t think much of it at first, but then she heard a man’s voice screaming, “Addison!”

Easterling continued, “And it was midnight. I ran upstairs as fast as I could. I was crying. I was shaking. I was like, ‘Dad, I just heard someone scream my name outside the door.’”

When her dad went outside, the man in question had driven off in his car.

According to Easterling, she was simply terrified about what could have happened to her. Her house was not in a gated community, and her bedroom was next to the pool with only a sliding door in between her and the outside world.

“My heart fell to my toes,” she said. “I was scared… I thought I was gonna die.”

Easterling has also been open about other ways in which fame can be negative. For example, she spoke to Glamour UK earlier this year about criticism on the internet.

“It’s a really hard thing to deal with when you’re a girl, especially going through your teens,” she shared. “I am 20 and my body is constantly changing, but people have this high standard around body image and say, ‘Oh, you have to look like this to look great or to look hot or to be cool or to be pretty.’”

Even when some words feel like compliments on the surface, Easterling sees them differently.

“For me, a lot of people have said, ‘Oh I love how comfortable she is and she doesn’t look like the beauty standard,’” she explained. “It’s a backhanded compliment sometimes because people will be like, ‘I’m so glad she’s confident that she doesn’t look perfect.’”

However, Easterling also said she tries to surround herself with people who are supportive of her. She also has therapy sessions to help her cope with the emotional toll of internet stardom.
