On October 21, 2021, Alec Baldwin pointed a prop gun at cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. They were rehearsing a scene for Baldwin’s “passion project,” a Western called Rust. What happened next isn’t entirely clear. However, Hutchins is dead. Moreover, director Joel Souza suffered an injury.

The incident happened at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico. An investigation into the matter continues.

Furthermore, two crew members have already filed civil suits against the veteran movie actor. Script supervisor Mamie Mitchell and gaffer Serge Svetnoy both filed documents separately in Los Angeles in November 2021.

Halyna Hutchins’ family interred her with a private memorial in November, as well.

Alec Baldwin now says he doesn’t care about his career

In a comprehensive sit-down interview with ABC’s George Stephanapoulos, the 30 Rock alum says he questions his future in film.

“I couldn’t give a sh** about my career anymore,” he said on the December 2, 2021 ABC special Alec Baldwin Unscripted. “Well, it could be [over].”

Continuing, he wondered how he could feasibly move forward after the deadly event.

“It could be, it could be,” Baldwin said, according to Decider. “If I decide that I — I mean, could I work? I’m going to go make another movie in January. And I said to them, ‘Do you wanna get out of it? Do you wanna get rid of me ’cause of what happened?’ They said, ‘No.’ But I say to myself, ‘Do I wanna work much more after that? Is it worth it?”

Baldwin additionally said he “can’t imagine” ever appearing in another movie with a gun.

“I can’t imagine I would ever do a movie that had a gun in it again, I can’t,” he said.

Despite his devastation, the visibly emotional actor says he doesn’t feel responsible for the death of Halyna Hutchins. Moreover, when Stephanopoulos asked, Baldwin said he doesn’t feel guilty

“No,” he responded. “I might have killed myself if I felt that I was responsible. I don’t say that lightly.”

Baldwin additionally said he doesn’t know why the gun went off. “The trigger wasn’t pulled,” he said. “I cock the gun… And then I let go of the hammer of the gun, and the gun goes off. I would never point a gun at anyone and pull a trigger at them.”

While he denies responsibility for Hutchins’ death, he also says he doesn’t know who is responsible.

“Someone put a live bullet in a gun, a bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property,” Baldwin said. “Someone is responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who that is, but I know it’s not me.”

To sum up, regardless of who is responsible, Alec Baldwin may be done with his career — by his own choice.
