Alexander Nate was born in Virginia

Showbiz Cheat Sheet: How did you first become interested in music?

Alexander Nate: Growing up I was always performing, whether it be in front of family or in the church plays. It kind of just naturally took over me as I got older.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet: You were born and raised in the Virginia area. A lot of artists make the move to Nashville, New York City, or Los Angeles for their careers. What keeps you in touch with your home state?

Alexander Nate: Honestly I just try and go back home as often as I can. I feel like that big move always comes at a cost, whether it be missing your family and friends or sometimes even your identity. I feel like now, as long as I can make it back home to Virginia a few times a year I feel like I’ve never left.

Plus, I refuse to change my drivers license so I have to go back every so often to renew it.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet: How would you describe your signature sound?

Alexander Nate: I feel my roots are in Soul with a hint of Southern Blues. Hard to pinpoint for myself as I’m inspired by almost every genre.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet: Your recent EP bluejay and “Save This Dance For Me” differ from your previous work in that you write more about your present instead of your past. What made you decide to focus on your present while songwriting, and has this changed how you view your own music?

Alexander Nate: It has, I feel I always pulled from the past as like a storybook I could just pull the pages from. It always kept my head in the past. With bluejay I felt I was able to kind of look up for once and focus on where I was at. It’s helped me in general to live a little more to try and create more memories to write about.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind “Save This Dance For Me”?

Alexander Nate: It’s about meeting someone special and having that first dance. It’s the hope that despite any challenges, you both always remember how it all started, and that the love shared is what moves you two forward. That’s what this song is about for me.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet: Do you have any particular streaming goals for “Save This Dance For Me,” or is there something else you want fans to take away from the song?

Alexander Nate: Honestly, I just want it to connect with someone out there, that’s all that really matters. The more the music does that I feel that can take it as far as it’s willing to go.

What to expect next from the singer

Showbiz Cheat Sheet: As an artist, you focus on releasing autobiographical music. Why do you choose to take inspiration from your personal life when it comes to creating music?

Alexander Nate: It’s just what I’ve always known to do really, I feel it’s easier to write about what you know. Also, a lot of my inspirations growing up wrote in that way as well.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet: When you write music, is your process the same for each song, or does it change depending on what song you are writing?

Alexander Nate: It doesn’t usually change mainly due to the fact it all stems from my personal experiences. Some may have me reflect a bit more or take me to a different headspace, but overall I like to just keep to myself and sit with my thoughts.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet: What can fans expect from you next?

Alexander Nate: They can expect more music with the deluxe EP we’ve been working to finish up now… hoping to have it out here very very soon!
