Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Beyoncé, and Others Got a Special Shoutout in This Disney+ Original Series

The actor behind Kourtney, Dara Reneé, is a member of the Bey Hive. Even this High School Musical: The Musical: The Series character takes inspiration from famous women like Beyoncé and United States Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Dara Reneé appears as Kourtney for the Disney+ original series, ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’

The Disney+ mockumentary, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. featured characters like Ricky and Nini, and Nini’s best friend named Kourtney. For High School Musical, Kourtney was the costume designer, helping everyone look their early 2000s best. 

However, this character surprised everyone, including Miss Jenn, when she decided to belt out “Bop to the Top.” For season 2 of this Disney+ original, it’s a new year, and Kourtney is looking to successful women for inspiration. 

Beyoncé, Michelle Obama, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez serve as inspiration for this character

Although Nini (portrayed by Olivia Rodrigo) returned for season 2 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, this character enrolled in a performing arts high school. For the first episode of this new season, Kourtney revealed that as Nini’s best friend, she was the only one who knew about the switch.

“Seeing Nini follow her dreams — it makes me wanna start chasing some of my own,” Kourtney said to the audience. 

At the same time, this character glued together a vision board for some inspiration. Some pictures included in the collage were Beyoncé at her 2018 Coachella performance, Former First Lady Michelle Obama, and the United States Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. 

“I might audition for the show,” the character continued. “I might expand my friend circle. I might get a job and some financial independence. Basically, I’m lining up options this year. It’s the dawn of the age of Kourtney.”

Yes, Kourtney is a fan of the “Crazy in Love” singer. Reneé is an unapologetic fan of Queen Bey. During the holiday special of this original series, the actor shared that her New Years’ resolution is to meet Beyoncé. 

For the Disney Family Singalong, the cast of this Disney+ original series was featured for one song, while Beyoncé appeared for a special shoutout to viewers. 

Almost instantly, Reneé posted to Twitter, “I just want to take a moment to acknowledge that I was in a special with BEYONCÉ!!! She probably doesn’t even know I exist, but that’s OK because the fact that we shared the same hour time slot is MORE THAN YA GIRL COULD ASK FOR!!”
