Well, that was fast.

We’re talking about the engagement between Amanda Bynes and her beau Paul Michael, folks. Just weeks after they announced their wedding plans, Michael revealed on March 8 that he had split from the former Nickelodeon star.

How did they go from bliss to broken up? Well, one report says that there was one major obstacle that the two just couldn’t shake.

A look back at Amanda Bynes’ engagement announcement

Bynes broke the news on Instagram in a post shared on Feb. 14.

“Engaged to tha love of my life,” she captioned a photo showing her sporting a massive emerald-cut ring.

Bynes did not immediately reveal the identity of her fiancé, but sources identified him to The Blast as Paul Michael — the son of parents with ties to the television industry.

She met Michael, 28, in Alcoholics Anonymous classes about three months before they got engaged, according to The Blast. Bynes, 33, later introduced him to fans in a video posted to her Instagram, confirming that they were both happy and healthy.

“I’ve remained sober for over a year – same with Paul,” Bynes explained. “I just wanted to let you know that I love you guys and I’m so happy now. I feel like I got what’s mine and that is Paul.”

Things between Amanda Bynes and her fiancé heated up… then cooled off

Bynes and Michael put their love on full display following the engagement announcement. They were seen having a sweet breakfast date at IHOP in late February and a source stressed to People that Bynes was really happy. But then the Easy A actress made a move that suggested something was wrong.

Bynes suddenly wiped all images and traces of Michael from her Instagram page, fueling breakup rumors. She did not say whether they had actually split, but Michael told In Touch Weekly on March 8: “We did [break up].”

Despite their ill-fated romance, Michael insisted that there were no hard feelings and that he still had love for Bynes.

“I love her though,” he said, adding, “she’s my best friend.”

What caused their breakup?

Neither Michael or Paul has shared their reason for their breakup. But multiple outlets have cited Bynes’ conservatorship.

She was placed under the conservatorship of her parents in 2014 after a public meltdown that led to Bynes being put under an involuntary psychiatrist hold. This means that she cannot make any major decisions, such as marriage, without the approval of her parents and a judge.

While Bynes had apparently hoped she would receive permission to get married, sources told E! News in February that her parents did not support her decision. Because of this, Michael apparently decided to break things off.

“Paul realized the relationship just couldn’t go forward because of the obstacles of the conservatorship and Amanda must live at a sober living facility,” a source told Us Weekly on March 8. (Bynes has lived in a sober living facility after having a relapse between late 2018 and early 2019.)

The actress has yet to comment on the split, but the Us Weekly source said, “Amanda is really upset about it and not taking it well at all.”

We all know that breakups are not easy. But we’re sure Bynes will push through.
