We’re well into spooky season, but American Horror Story fans will have to hold on a little longer before the season 10 premiere. The FX anthology’s upcoming cycle has been delayed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, Sarah Paulson’s recent comments about the AHS Season 10 theme makes it clear the new season will be worth the wait.

The ‘American Horror Story’ Season 10 theme hasn’t been revealed

Co-creator Ryan Murphy has been teasing the American Horror Story Season 10 theme. When the main cast list was announced in February 2020, Murphy used a video of a beach. Then in August, Murphy shared an Instagram post of razor-sharp teeth and directly stated the image was a clue.

That said, Murphy hasn’t confirmed the AHS theme for season 10. It’s also possible the team shifted gears because of the delay in production.

“A lot of what I was going to shoot was dependent on a very specific moment. It was a weather-dependent show,” Murphy told The Wrap in May. “I don’t know what I’m gonna do next with that show. I don’t know if I’ll accelerate another season or wait till next year to shoot this one.”

Sarah Paulson touches on the ‘American Horror Story’ Season 10 theme

Until American Horror Story Season 10 officially unveils its theme, viewers will be busy developing new fan theories. Then in an interview with Harper’s BAZAAR published in September 2020, Paulson reacted to a few.

One AHS fan predicted it was time for the FX series to dive into aliens and Area-51. Viewers have been itching for a space theme since the second season, and Murphy even touched on the topic back in November 2019.

When speaking with Deadline, Murphy revealed the writers have “flirted” with aliens and space for upcoming seasons. But the co-creator indicated the subject would be difficult. “It would be hard because it’s called American Horror Story and you’d have to stay within the legal soil limits in order to make that work,” Murphy said at the time.

Even so, Paulson didn’t exactly turn down the alien fan theory during the interview with Harper’s BAZAAR. At first, the actor simply looked away from the camera and pursed her lips. “I plead the fifth,” she said. But then, she went on.

“Everyone’s going to think that’s me confirming it,” Paulson said. “I just think it’s possible. How about that? I think that is… possible.”

She added, “I’m gonna get into so much trouble.”

Meanwhile, one fan brought up Murphy’s previous comments during an interview with TV Guide from October 2019. The co-creator revealed there would be a “big” clue about season 10 in the eighth episode of American Horror Story: 1984. This led many viewers to believe in a water-themed season with creatures like the Loch Ness monster or mermaids.

Nevertheless, Paulson admitted she hasn’t seen 1984. “I didn’t watch that season because I wasn’t in it,” she said. “I’m a narcissist. So…”

As mentioned, American Horror Story Season 10 was delayed due to the pandemic. According to Entertainment Weekly, production was shut down in early April. But in August, Murphy revealed the AHS team is expected to begin filming in October.

“Looks like American Horror Story Season 10 is go for an October (fitting) production launch,” he wrote on Instagram. “Thanks to everyone who is working hard to assure a safe start for the cast and crew.”

Meanwhile, Deadline confirmed FX pushed the next AHS premiere to 2021. The network also announced a spinoff series for its FX on Hulu viewers. So while fans will have to wait, it looks like there’ll be plenty of content to consume in the new year.
