Vergara has been spending the last decade playing Gloria Pritchett on Modern Family. Now she is moving to reality television. The actress explained her reason behind that.

She said the experience will be “something completely different than I thought I was going to do after Modern Family. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to do something different after 10 years of such a fantastic TV show. I didn’t think I was going to get something like that, but I think it’s better to mix it up for a while,” according to Extra.

“I think I am going to have a lot of fun,” she said. “I’ve been watching the show for a long time, and it looks like the judges have so much fun — like the contestants.”

She is the first Latin judge on the show

Vergara gave a statement with the news that she will be judging the season. She made sure to note the significance behind her casting.

“I am so happy to join my new family on @agt This is a new and exciting next chapter for me and I’m extremely proud to be the first Latin judge on the show. I can’t wait to watch all the new talent and have fun with all you guys!” she wrote in the caption of an Instagram post.

Heidi Klum gave her advice for her first day

The judges already filmed their first day of the new season. Klum revealed that she gave the new judge some advice.

“It’s been amazing! We’ve only filmed one day so far and on the first day she was like, ‘I’m really nervous. I don’t wanna do anything wrong,'” she told Entertainment Tonight. “And I said to her, ‘You cannot do anything wrong. You just speak your truth. You just say what you just saw, if you like it and if you don’t, and if you just elaborate on that, that’s it. The nice thing is you don’t have to memorize any text. You know because on Modern Family, I’m sure she has to do pages and pages of memorizing.”

Klum continued, “We don’t have to memorize anything. We have no ear [piece]. There’s no one talking to us in our ear. You see it and you speak what you thought of it.”

The rest of the judging panel will stay the same with Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel being the other two judges. Terry Crews is also returning to host the season.
