Finding the perfect gift for your significant other can be tough for anyone, but celebrities are in a particularly tricky position. For one thing, their partners are often accustomed to the most luxurious of lifestyles, so it’s going to take something unique and thoughtful to impress them.

On top of that, there are plenty of examples among famous peers of over-the-top and extremely expensive gifts, which can lead to a bit of competition.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are both extremely successful actors with significant net worths of their own, so back when the pair was still a couple, they had to come up with creative ways to express their love. Jolie found some truly unusual gifts for her ex-husband, including a waterfall!

Jolie and Pitt first met while co-starring as married assassins who didn’t know about each other’s double life. In 2004 the sparks were flying on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and the resulting headlines were scandalous. Brad Pitt was married to beloved actor Jennifer Aniston at the time. The pair had long been a fan favorite, and their story of being set up by their agents back in 1998 was the stuff of a Hollywood rom-com.

The public was scandalized by what they saw as a home-wrecking affair. While Pitt and Jolie both denied anything happened between them until after Pitt and Aniston had officially begun divorce proceedings, the pair became a very public couple quickly.

In fact, Jolie took to the press to gush about falling in love on the set of the film: “We just became kind of a pair. And it took until, really, the end of the shoot for us, I think, to realize that it might mean something more than we’d earlier allowed ourselves to believe.”

Aniston found these comments hurtful and inappropriate, and the public largely agreed, chastising both Pitt and Jolie.

The pair weathered forward, though. They created a large, multicultural family through adoptions that spanned the globe, and the jet-setting family started to grow on the public. By the time the couple finally wed in 2014, “Brangelina” had become a normal part of the pop culture world, and the past scandal had largely faded in memory.

Just as the start of their relationship had drawn so much attention and gossip, the end was a scandal as well. After several years and several children together, Jolie and Pitt finally married in 2014, but they would begin divorce proceedings just two years later in 2016.

The divorce came after a heated exchange on a private plane where Pitt, allegedly intoxicated, got into an altercation of some kind with his son Maddox, who was 15 at the time. Pitt was investigated for — and cleared of — child abuse charges.

The next few years were rocky, but the pair eventually came to amicable custody terms and now seem to be co-parenting peacefully. Pitt has also been open about his attempts to make better choices regarding alcohol and his own mental health.

The whirlwind marriage may have come to an end, but fans still remember the intensity and boldness of one of Hollywood’s most famous couples. Jolie, in particular, was fond of gifting her husband lavish and unique presents as tokens of her love.

She once gifted him a $1.6 million helicopter “just because.” In another instance, Jolie presented Pitt with a 200-year-old olive tree.

Among these impressive and unusual gifts was something Jolie definitely couldn’t wrap up and hand over to Pitt. She gifted him with an actual waterfall. According to Shape, Pitt was taken with a visit to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, and that inspired her to purchase a waterfall in California and present it to Pitt.
