When Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex announced they were expecting their first child in the fall of 2018, the world was thrown into a tizzy. The royal couple was still riding the wave of their wedding, and a baby was just the icing on the cake.

In the months leading up to Archie’s birth on May 6, 2019, tons of rumors about the baby’s gender, name, and Meghan’s birth plan swirled across the internet. Though we’ve seen glimpses of Archie since his birth, the Sussexes, have been very protective of their one-year-old son.

However, an insider reveals that Archie can often be spotted during his parents’ work meetings on video calls.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle struggled with finding a nanny for Archie

Though there was much speculation surrounding Archie’s birth, we know now that Meghan gave birth in a U.K. hospital. The duchess’ sole concern was the health and safety of her little one. In Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand’s new book Finding Freedom, a source revealed that the royal couple has been smitten with their firstborn from the begging.

“Archie was alert as soon as he arrived – eyes wide-open,” the insider revealed to Daily Mail. “Meghan described the moment she first held him as ecstasy…total bliss and contentment. Like any mother, you can’t fully know what to expect until you have been through all of it.”

Meghan Markle loves to boast about Archie

Those first few weeks as parents were nerve-wracking as new parents for the Sussexes. They initially decided to only have a night nurse, but had a horrible experience and had to fire their initial nurse. “Meghan and Harry felt they were forced to let the nurse go in the middle of her second night of work for being unprofessional,” a source revealed via Daily Mail.

In the end, the pair decided to take on nights themselves and have a nanny with Archie during the weekdays when they are at work. An insider explained to Daily Mail,

Harry had seen that situation at Prince William’s home (the Cambridge’s had a live-in housekeeper and a full-time, live-in nanny) and didn’t want the same for his own family. He and Meghan liked the idea that when they went to bed at night, it was just the three of them in the house. Cozy and private.

Now that the pair are living in LA, Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland has moved in to help with Archie. “Meghan boasts to friends about her son, often telling friends about how the little royal is he ninetieth percentile for height,” the insider explained. “She eagerly offered to pull out her phone to show some of the many photos she had of her boy.”

Archie often pops up in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s video calls

While Meghan and Prince Harry are currently living in Beverly Hills as they prep for the launch of their Archewell Foundation, they are also super hands-on with Archie. Apparently, the little one is walking and often pops up in his parents’ work video conferences.

“When Harry and Meghan do video-conferencing calls with their team and with members of the community, you will often see Archie pop into the camera,” Durand told The Today Show. “He’s now walking a bit. They’re very, very hands-on parents.”
