Miley Cyrus is a big Dolly Parton fan. Cyrus, a Grammy award-winning musician, has been open about the fact that Parton is a huge influence on her music. Even though Parton and Cyrus are from different generations, it seems that music bridges the gap.

It’s not just music that connects them. The two women are friends in real life, and have performed together more than once. Their close relationship has sometimes made fans wonder if they’re actually related. They do have a familial bond, of sorts.

It’s interesting that Cyrus, a pop music maven, is so closely related to country’s most famous singer. Although Cyrus has always been proud of her country roots, she isn’t nearly as big in the genre as Parton, at least not yet. Considering that Cyrus comes from Tennessee, and is the daughter and goddaughter of country legends, it’s possible she’ll make more country music in the future.

Cyrus’ father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who found fame with his hit song “Achy Breaky Heart,” has a close relationship with Parton. Their friendship is what led he and his wife to ask Parton to be Miley Cyrus’ godmother. It’s no surprise that his daughter inherited some of that same talent, especially with Parton as a mentor and godmother.

Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus have performed together

Cyrus and Parton have shared the stage on a few notable occasions. When Parton’s famous theme park, Dollywood, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2010, Parton had Cyrus come up on stage to celebrate. The two sang Parton’s famous hit song: “Jolene.”

The duet was a smashing success. Apparently the two liked doing it so much that they couldn’t help but do it again. When Cyrus was judging The Voice in 2016, the two returned to the stage and sang the same song.

Cyrus’ newest album contains a collaboration between her and Parton. The song — “Rainbowland” — actually starts off with a voicemail Cyrus received from her godmother about the collaboration. Then, the track launches into an upbeat tune about how to make the world a better place.

The song has traces of Parton’s influence, and some fans have speculated that this is Cyrus’ tribute to the veteran singer. Parton certainly deserves a tribute, considering she has done so much for Cyrus’ career and for music, in general. Either way, fans hope it’s one of many future collaborations.

Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton are similar in a lot of ways

Although at first blush these two stars have little in common, they’re actually more similar than different. Parton has even said Cyrus reminds her of herself.

Cyrus sees Parton as a role model, which means the older singer is definitely in a position to influence the younger. However, Parton doesn’t take advantage of that or try to change Cyrus’ music or lifestyle. She lets Cyrus be herself and just tries to be there for her.

Parton wants nothing but the best for her young goddaughter, but she’s very cautious of being too overbearing. She wants Cyrus to develop “her own wings and learn to fly.” Considering how successful Cyrus has been, it seems like Parton’s methods are working.

Now that Cyrus has included Parton on her new album, fans are hopeful for more collaboration to come. Both these women are epic, despite their differences.
