Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have every reason to be spoiled. Their parents are esteemed members of the royal family and one day in the distant future, their father will take the throne and become King of England. In the even more distant future, young Prince George will also take his rightful place as ruler of the country.

But despite being born into a world of wealth, privilege, and blue-blooded entitlement, the offspring of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are being raised to appreciate their surroundings and not become spoiled. Here’s how Prince William and Kate Middleton are keeping the young royals humble.

Princess Diana didn’t spoil her boys

One of the biggest reasons that Prince William is raising his kids to be appreciative is that he was also raised that way, too. Princess Diana went out of her way to ensure that her two sons never became spoiled or bratty even though they were royalty.

“She used to love taking them to see the homeless. She was terribly concerned that they should see that side of life,” a family friend explained. Royal expert and author Nicholas Davies agreed with that assessment. “She desperately wanted to get them away from a life of privilege which she knew they were destined to live for the rest of their lives.”

It obviously worked – both Prince Harry and Prince William are remarkably generous and modest considering who they are.

Are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children spoiled?

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis all enjoy a life of comfort and fun. But they aren’t spoiled like so many other celebrity children. For one thing, they’re often spotted out and about in hand-me-down clothing rather than always getting something new. Designer frocks? Maybe sometimes. But they’re certainly not wearing toddler-sized Gucci outfits every day.

The other thing the royal family does differently is ban their kids from using electronics like iPads to keep them entertained. Prince William and Kate Middleton subscribe to a more old-school method of entertainment – they encourage their kids to play with wooden blocks and trains, plus spend time outdoors every single day. Imagine that!

Does Prince George know he’s going to be king?

For now, Prince George doesn’t even realize he’ll be king one day. As Prince William explained, “As far as we are concerned within our family unit, we are a normal family. I love my children in the same way any father does, and I hope George loves me the same way any son does to his father.”

“We are very normal in that sense. There’ll be a time and a place to bring George up and understand how he fits in, in the world. But right now it’s just a case of keeping a secure, stable environment around him and showing as much love as I can as father.”

This is exactly why these little royals aren’t spoiled – because their parents weren’t and they’ve figured out what really matters in life. It sounds like they’re doing a fantastic job raising these pint-sized royals.
