Although they’re a decade apart in age, 27-year-old Selena Gomez and 17-year-old Billie Eilish have a number of important interests and experiences in common. They both became stars at a very young age and they’re both talented musicians.

Despite the difference in their ages, it seems that the two of them would get along great. Are these musically talented women friends, and what connections do they share that might bring them together?

Selena Gomez and Billie Elish have similar stories

You can definitely see that they travel in similar circles. For example, both Gomez and Eilish performed at Coachella 2019, and their performances were widely loved.

What’s more, they each made the top 20 list of female artists with the most streamed songs ever. They’re each talented and adored by their devoted fans.

When you look at how they became the superstars they are, it may seem at first that their experiences are worlds apart. It’s true that they followed very different processes.

After all, Gomez made her way into the public eye methodically over time, starting as a little girl on the kids’ show Barney and Friends. From there she moved to the Disney Channel, eventually using that platform to launch her music career.

Eilish, on the other hand, became an accidental overnight phenomenon at 13. She uploaded a song that she sang, called “Ocean Eyes,” to SoundCloud for her dance teacher to listen to. It became a viral sensation literally overnight, and only three years later she’s breaking records with her unparalleled success.

But despite their different routes to stardom, it’s true that they both became famous at a young age. Gomez knows what it’s like to grow up in the public eye, having your every career choice and relationship scrutinized. She’s watched fellow child stars fall victim to drugs and chaos, and she’s struggled with her health while the world watched. Gomez just might be a good source of guidance and support for the young Eilish.

Selena Gomez and Billie Eilish have a special shared connection

Similar life experiences aren’t all they share. Gomez’s new song, “Lose You to Love Me” was produced by someone very close to Eilish: her 22-year-old brother Finneus Eilish.

Finneus is a big part of his sister’s music, even as he pursues his own musical career. He’s also her biggest fan, even though she’s much more famous than he is.

Gomez, Finneus, and Eilish are all signed to the same record label: Interscope Records. Executives with the label reached out to Finneus to work with Gomez on her song. She said in an interview with SiriusXM’s Hits 1 in Hollywood hosts Symonand Tony Fly that his work was “awesome” and that it “really made a difference.” Since “Lose You to Love Me” is Gomez’s first #1 hit, she’s sure to be extra grateful for Finneus’ help.

Selena Gomez and Billie Eilish share another professional link

Gomez and Eilish have also worked on the same project. Eilish recorded two songs for the Netflix show 13 Reasons Why, one for each season so far. Gomez is the executive producer for the show, and the two have clearly met. It seems likely that this won’t be the last time they work together.

Gomez and Eilish look like they are a friendship match made in heaven, and just might be that the connections they share have already made that happen. If not, it could be a wonderful opportunity for both of them. Gomez could be a helpful source of hard-won wisdom from her experiences, and Eilish is a breath of fresh air. We can only hope that these two talented singer/songwriters will someday enjoy the benefits of being besties.
