Wendy Osefo’s first season on ‘The Real Housewives of Potomac’ just aired

Osefo, the only new housewife on The Real Housewives of Potomac in two seasons, was both a figure of admiration and polarization for viewers. During her first season, she was most known for referencing her many degrees, which was polarizing to some of her fellow cast members, as well as fans.

In an interview with Verizon’s In the Know, Osefo insinuated that she didn’t realize how polarizing the degree talk would be.

“I am very proud of my degrees, and I am proud of my accomplishments, but I feel like as a new Housewife, one of the elements is for people to get to know you — something that is a distinguishing factor about you outside of the group.” she said. ‘It just so happened that one of my distinguishing factors was the fact that I have four degrees. In addition to the fact that I am the first Nigerian Housewife, so you guys got to see my daughter’s sip and see, and we did it Nigerian style. But I just found it so interesting that it became so polarizing, in a way.”

Wendy Osefo looked up to Kenya Moore?

While we are unsure if Osefo and Moore have a friendship, in a recent interview with The Jasmine Brand, Osefo revealed that Moore, the former Miss USA, was an idol for her growing up.

She told the publication that there weren’t any darker-skinned woman on television that she saw that looked like her. “I’m a brown skin girl right? I are up in the era where music videos were big, like music videos were very big.  And I remember always watching BET and stuff like that.  And I was like  ‘Man none of these girls look like me.’  I remember DMX’s video he was talking about ‘There was Keisha, Don, LaShwawn’ all the names he was naming and I was like, ‘Well who looks like Wendy?’”

However, when she saw Moore on television, long before her The Real Housewives of Atlanta days, she saw herself represented on television. “[I] will never forget I saw this beautiful brown skin girl, and I was like ‘Who is that?’” she explained. “And she always stuck in my head. Fast forward [and] Kenya Moore joined Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

Wendy Osefo says Kenya Moore ‘been cashing checks’

Though Moore is probably most-known now for being on the Bravo reality show, that is not her reference point for Osefo. “I think that for some people Kenya Moore is associate[d] with Real Housewives of Atlanta but for me, she represented what I felt like I looked like on TV,” she explained. “So before the show Kenya Moore was that girl, and to me she is still that girl. Love you Kenya. Y’all can say ‘Oh are you team Kenya?’ It don’t matter what team you’re on because Kenya Moore been cashing checks.  She’s been that girl so let’s put some respect on her name.”

The Real Housewives of Potomac is expected to begin filming for the new season soon with a premiere date set for later this year on Bravo. Meanwhile, The Real Housewives of Atlanta is airing its current season on the network.
