Are Ariana Grande and Hailey Bieber Friends?
Singer Ariana Grande has a lot of famous friends, from her Victorious co-star Liz Gillies to her “Monopoly” collaborator Victoria Monét. But not all of her pals are particularly musical. Here’s a look at her friendship with Hailey Bieber.
Ariana Grande has been seen out with Hailey Bieber recently
Grande hasn’t been as busy in 2020 as the previous two years. While fans are consistently begging her for new music, the hardworking musician has been taking a bit of a break from major releases, after her back-to-back albums Sweetener and Thank U, Next.
This allows her time to hang with friends. The Daily Mail reported on Feb. 18, 2020, that Grande and Bieber, along with Nicole Richie and two stylist friends, were spotted getting a meal at a Beverly Hills restaurant together.
It’s far from the first time they’ve been seen together
Grande and Bieber probably don’t spend a lot of time together, given their busy lives. But they’ve been spotted hanging out numerous times over the years. Both attended the 2018 Met Gala, where they were photographed alongside singers Shawn Mendes and Troye Sivan.
At the time, Bieber (then Baldwin) was rumored to be dating Mendes. But very shortly thereafter, she moved on, to someone that Grande happens to know quite well.
How do Bieber and Grande know each other?
So what is the connection between these two? Aside from their previous friendship, both Grande and Bieber’s now-husband, Justin Bieber, are managed by Scooter Braun. In fact, the “Yummy” singer has credited Grande with helping him get back the studio, after Braun encouraged him to sing with her during her Coachella set in 2019.
In his interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Bieber said that that performance gave him “a boost of confidence” and reminded him “this is what I do, this is what I’m good at.” He also wrote to her on Twitter at the time, saying, “thank you for Coachella and helping remind me of what I love to do. Appreciate you so much.
Grande previously defended Bieber’s relationship
Both Grande and the Biebers got engaged in 2018. Grande and her then-beau, Pete Davidson, announced their engagement in June 2018, while Bieber and her soon-to-be-husband made the big step just one month later. Apparently, some felt that this was all orchestrated by Braun for press.
Grande took to Twitter amidst these rumors, defending both her engagement and that of Bieber, writing “you do realize we are human beings who love and have lives” in a since-deleted message. Though she and Davidson later broke up, her point still stands.
Justin Bieber mentions Grande in a new clip
After Grande went to bat for the Biebers way back in 2018, it looks like it was their turn to return the favor. And on The Ellen DeGeneres show in March 2020, Justin Bieber gave her a small shout-out that resonated.
When asked what his wife smells like, the Changes star said, “She smells like Ariana Grande’s perfume,” adding, “it’s a good smell!” Grande shared this clip on her Instagram, writing, “I kno das right.” Hailey Bieber then commented, “period!!!” which Grande replied to with three heart emojis. We love to see ladies (and their husbands) supporting each other.
