Singer Ariana Grande has her fans eagerly on the lookout for her upcoming sixth album, which they’re calling AG6 until a title is announced. The artist has garnered the Recording Academy’s attention in recent years, so a Grammy-nominated album is highly anticipated. Could Grande’s next album be nominated at the 2021 ceremony?

Grande released her debut album Yours Truly, in 2013. Her time on Nickelodeon, where she starred in the sitcom Victorious and its spinoff, Sam & Cat, was coming to an end, and she was ready to launch her music career. Grande quickly followed up with her second album, My Everything, released in 2014.

Both of her first two albums were well received, both debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. But her past three have earned even more attention. Following 2016’s Dangerous Woman, Grande released 2018’s Sweetener. Less than six months later, in February 2019, the artist dropped Thank U, Next.

She won at the 2019 Grammy Awards

In addition to chart-topping success, Grande’s music has earned her numerous awards. After four previous nominations, the artist scored two nods at the 2019 Grammy Awards. She was even set to perform at the show — however, a disagreement with those in charge led to her dropping out.

Though Grande didn’t attend the ceremony that year, she did win her first (and, to date, only) Grammy: Best Pop Vocal Album for Sweetener. In 2020, Grande earned her most Grammy nominations to date, including Album of the Year for Thank U, Next. However, she didn’t win in any of the five categories.

Grande hinted about her sixth album

Releasing two albums in such a short time (and touring for both) kept Grande very busy over the past couple of years. However, 2020 and all that came with it allowed her to take a break, while still offering up her fans a treat now and then (in the form of duets “Stuck with U” and “Rain On Me”).

But her Arianators know that Grande never really stops working. With a home studio and close friends (like Tayla Parx) as collaborators, the artist often hints about what she has going on. Following a “brb” post (including a clip) in September 2020, she later liked a tweet about AG6.

Will AG6 be eligible for the 2021 Grammys?

The day she liked the tweet, Grande shared the above photo, writing she was “turning in these mixes.” In other words, the artist is getting closer to revealing what she’s been working on. But will her upcoming album be eligible at the 2021 Grammy Awards, or will her other two releases this year be her only chance at a Grammy next year?

Unfortunately for Arianators, the cut-off date for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards was August 31, 2020. This means that any music Grande releases in the last few months of 2020 won’t be eligible until the 2022 award show. Regardless, fans will likely want to keep listening, because Grande is poised to debut something soon.
