Ariana Grande is known as a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter. But she’s also an actress. And though her focus in on her music career these days, she’s returning to TV for a very special role in the Showtime series Kidding. Read on to learn more about it.

Ariana Grande first became famous as an actress

Grande was very into musical theater as a child, and got her start on Broadway. However it was the Nickelodeon sitcom Victorious that made her famous. She starred as Cat Valentine, an eccentric student at Hollywood Arts High School who has a mostly ordinary life with her friends while working to breakout in show business.

When Victorious was canceled after three seasons, most of Grande’s cast mates left the network. But she stayed on at Nick for Sam & Cat, a spin off of both Victorious and iCarly. The series lasted just one season before it was canceled, with rumors of on-set feuding.

Her singing career took off

As her time at Nick came to an end, Grande was well on her way to a successful singing career. She had already released her first album, Yours Truly, in 2013 and a second one, My Everything, came out the next year. She then achieved major milestones like performing at the White House and on Saturday Night Live.

These days, Grande is thought of mostly as a musician. Her last three albums — Dangerous Woman, Sweetener, and Thank U, Next — earned her Grammy nominations, sold-out tours, and a level of fame unbeknownst to most young artists.

Despite being very busy with her music, Grande has continued to act here and there over the years since leaving Nick. Her most notable was as sorority girl Sonya Herfmann, better known as Chanel No. 2, in the Fox horror series Scream Queens. Grande recurred on Season 1 for four episodes.

The artist’s only other acting role, aside from a cameo in Zoolander 2, took her back to her musical roots. She portrayed Penny Pingleton in the 2016 NBC special Hairspray Live! opposite Jennifer Hudson, Dove Cameron, and many more.

She has a guest role in ‘Kidding’ Season 2

After years away, it looks like Grande is prepared to return to TV. In 2019, she revealed that she would appear in the upcoming season of Kidding. The series, which airs on Showtime, stars Jim Carrey as a kid’s TV performer. The second season was initially due out in late 2019, but was pushed back.

At the time, Grande posted the above photo of herself with Carrey. She wrote that “no words do this moment justice,” calling it “the most special experience.” She noted that she has “idolized and adored” Carrey, who she calls “special and warm and generous.”
