Though Grande became famous for the TV show Victorious, she hasn’t spent much time on the small screen in the years since its spinoff, Sam & Cat, went off the air. Her Scream Queens role, the Hairspray Live special, and an episode of the Showtime series Kidding make up her TV roles since.

Grande announced her return to TV with her first big non-scripted gig on March 30, 2021. “surprise,” she tweeted. “I am beyond thrilled, honored, excited to be joining @kellyclarkson @johnlegend @blakeshelton next season ~ season 21 of @nbcthevoice.”

Her fellow coaches welcomed her to the show

The reality music competition program, which premiered a decade ago, features rotating coaches with their own musical careers. Those from The Voice Season 20 who are returning reached out to Grande on Twitter following the news to congratulate her on joining them on the show.

“So excited to welcome Ariana to our Voice family,” tweeted John Legend. The musician is among the more recent additions to the program, having joined with season 16.

“Next season we are bringing y’all some powerful female energy! Welcome to the @NBCTheVoice family @ArianaGrande,” wrote Kelly Clarkson. The American Idol alum originally appeared in two seasons as a part-time adviser before becoming a coach with season 14.

Finally, Blake Shelton, the only coach who’s been there (and never left) since the very beginning, sent out his message to Grande. “There’s a new @NBCTheVoice coach in town y’all! Welcome to the fam @ArianaGrande,” he tweeted.

Though Shelton, Clarkson, and Legend maintain their consistent presence on The Voice for years, many judges pop in for just a season or two, especially if they’re promoting a project. This appears to have been the case for Nick Jonas, who, after first joining with season 18, came back for season 20 and now exits, making way for Grande.

Jonas, whose solo album Spaceman dropped just days after The Voice Season 20 began, heads out on the road this summer, touring with the Jonas Brothers. Naturally, this makes him too busy for The Voice. He sent his successor a message. “Congrats @ArianaGrande! You’re going to kill it next season! Welcome to the family,” Jonas tweeted.

‘The Voice’ Season 21 premiere date isn’t set

Like many competition programs, this one typically airs two seasons per year: One in the spring and one in the fall. This continues for Ariana Grande’s The Voice season, which doesn’t have an official premiere date as of May 25, 2021. However, the show will adjust its schedule following season 21.

“Going into the 21st cycle in the fall, The Voice remains one of the most popular shows on television, and we want to keep it that way,” NBCUniversal Chairman Frances Berwick told Deadline.

“We want to eventize this iconic series,” Berwick continued. “We think The Voice will be on NBC for a very long time to come, and we believe the best way to protect the brand while also superserving fans is to produce one amazing cycle this year.”
