Actor Armie Hammer’s 15-year career in Hollywood includes roles in both big-budget films and smaller productions. The Oscar-winning movie Call Me by Your Name, in particular, earned him a lot of attention. But he made a lot more money for another film that was also nominated at the Academy Awards.

Armie Hammer broke out with his role in ‘The Social Network’

Hammer has been acting since the mid-’00s. But it was his role as Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss (also known as the Winklevoss twins) in the 2010 biographical drama The Social Network that made him famous. A decade later, he told The Late Late Show with James Corden host how it altered his life.

“It feels [like] way more than 10 years ago,” said Hammer. “Right before [TheSocial Network I was getting fired off of f*cking TV shows…and then [TheSocial Network happens and the next thing I know I’m sitting by Glenn Close and Meryl Streep at the Academy Awards.” He called it “a cataclysmic change for my career.”

He went on to star in the critically acclaimed ‘Call Me by Your Name’

Hammer appeared in several popular films following The Social Network, including J. Edgar, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and The Birth of a Nation. But one of the movies he’s now best known for is the coming-of-age film Call Me by Your Name, in which he co-starred opposite Timothée Chalamet.

The Italian romantic drama debuted in January 2017 at the Sundance Film Festival, earning immediate acclaim. Call Me by Your Name was not only a box office success but garnered rave critical reviews. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, including the top prize, Best Picture. Writer James Ivory won for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Some movies are a labor of love, like Call Me By Your Name. But many big-budget films are a different story. Hammer joked about this in the interview with Corden, referring to the 2012 fantasy movie Mirror Mirror. “One for them, one for the bank,” said Corden, comparing the two films. “Follow that cheddar, baby,” added Hammer.

The talk-show host jokingly asked Hammer how much he earned for Mirror Mirror. “I can do the math,” said Hammer. “I’m not going to actually answer it,” he continued. But he did give one hint. “I can tell you that it was well over 15 times what I got paid for Call Me by Your Name,” the actor answered.” “I bet, sure,” replied Corden.

Mirror Mirror earned over $183 million at the box office, which is a lot more than Call Me by Your Name‘s modest $40 million. Then again, it also cost a lot more to make. And while not a flop, the Snow White fairytale’s adaptation earned mixed to negative reviews in comparison to Call Me by Your Name‘s acclaim.

However, like Call Me by Your NameMirror Mirror also boasts the status of being an Oscar-nominated production. But unlike the other, it didn’t win. At the 2013 Academy Awards ceremony, Mirror Mirror was nominated for Best Costume Design. It lost to Anna Karenina.
