When Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2 was announced, fans of the anime assumed it would take them all the way to the ending of Hajime Isayama’s manga. However, as the latest outing progresses, more and more viewers are convinced Attack on Titan won’t conclude with its current batch of episodes. Here’s why.

‘Attack on Titan’ Season 4 Part 2 is ending in 2 episodes

Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2 reportedly clocks in at 12 episodes — meaning we’re just two away from its ending as of this writing. Episode 85, dubbed “Traitor,” dropped on March 13. And the latest outing brought the alliance only slightly closer to confronting Eren Jaeger.

The anime has taken no steps to pick up its pace as it approaches the finale. And given how much of the manga is left to adapt, it seems unlikely it will cover the whole thing. Because of this, more and more fans are doubtful that Attack on Titan is ending within the next few weeks.

Fans believe ‘Attack on Titan’ will go past season 4 part 2

Because of how difficult it would be for Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2 to reach its final battle in two more episodes — much less conclude it — many believe this outing won’t actually be the ending.

After Attack on Titan Episode 85 dropped, fans took to Twitter and Reddit to discuss how the anime could possibly wrap things up. The concensus? It can’t — not without a part 3, special, or movie tacked onto the end.

Unless the anime makes some major changes to the source material, it seems impossible it will cover all the remaining chapters of the manga. For this reason, viewers are wondering if we might see more episodes.

This wouldn’t be the first time Attack on Titan hyped up its final season, only to announce it was breaking it into multiple parts. MAPPA could push the series’ climax into a third installment. Of course, it could also give the show a proper sendoff with a film or special.

Will the anime deliver its ending with a movie?

Although Attack on Titan fans agree that the anime probably won’t wrap with season 4 part 2, they’re divided on how it will deliver its ending. Theories about an anime-original finale surfaced well before the current outing began. If those prove true, the show could roll out part 3 of its final season.

However, if the anime intends to adapt the final chapters of Hajime Isayama’s manga as they are, it seems more likely a movie will round things out. There are only a handful of chapters left at this point, most of them featuring one final showdown.

With the success of films like Demon Slayer: Mugen Train and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if MAPPA chose to go this route. It would give fans the chance to experience the big finale in theaters. And truthfully, we can’t think of a better way to bid farewell to this story.

Attack on Titan Episode 86 drops on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu on March 20.
