Attack on Titan Season 4 has forced the main characters to question their allegiances, just as fans of the anime have realized the heroes and villains of the series aren’t as black and white as they once believed. Attack on Titan Season 4 has pushed its characters to make difficult decisions, particularly those who once aligned with Eren Jaeger. Eren kept his friends in the dark about his plans for the Founding Titan, and it’s becoming clear why. As much as they stand to benefit from the Rumbling, Armin, Mikasa, and the other core characters can’t justify what Eren is about to do. And they take their stance definitively in the anime’s latest episode.

Although the group seemed on the fence about pushing back in previous installments, they decided to stand up to Eren (and the Jaegerists) in Attack on Titan Episode 83. Of course, they’ll need more than Thunder Spears to stop the Rumbling. That’s why they formed a surprising alliance in this week’s episode.

‘Attack on Titan’ Episode 83 brought about an alliance

Attack on Titan Episode 83 sees the anime’s main characters coming together, mostly due to Levi and Hange’s chance encounter with Pieck and Commander Magath last week. They devise a plan to save Jean, Mikasa, and Onyankopon from the Jaegerists’ clutches. And that’s not all they’ve got up their sleeve, either.

After Armin and Gabi stop Conny from feeding Falco to his mother, the four of them run into Annie. Annie decides to join them in their efforts to stop Eren, and the group ends the episode recruiting Reiner as well. After multiple seasons fighting one another, it seems the 104th Cadet Corps — or what’s left of it, anyway — is back together again.

And those characters will join Levi, Hange, Pieck, and Magath in future Attack on Titan episodes. They intend to put an end to the Rumbling. But even with multiple Titan Shifters on their side, will they have enough power to stop Eren from destroying the rest of the world?

Will the alliance stop Eren Jaeger before season 4 is through?

Although the Attack on Titan characters’ newfound alliance mixes the strongest Scouts with several of the Titan Shifters, will it be enough to stop Eren? He still has the power of the Founding Titan, as well as a huge contingent of committed followers and an army of Wall Titans. Even with five of the Nine Titans, stopping him will be no easy feat.

Still, Conny and his friends seem confident they can “save the world” when episode 83 closes. With Armin and Hange’s wits, perhaps they’ll come up with a way to gain an advantage. Either that, or the group will need to appeal to Eren’s feelings for them — which may prove difficult considering how distant he’s been.

Only time will tell if the alliance can really stop the Rumbling. But it’s exciting to see Attack on Titan‘s core characters together again. Let’s hope their reunion isn’t too short-lived.
