Attack on Titan Season 4 has made it difficult to see how the main characters will find peace before the anime is through. Although Eren plans to eradicate anyone who poses a threat to Paradis Island, Armin realizes they need the cooperation of the Titan Shifters if they want the conflict to end. And this week’s episode of Attack on Titan left Armin and Gabi racing the clock — to save Falco and any hope of a peaceful resolution.

Conny kidnaps Falco in ‘Attack on Titan’ Episode 81

Attack on Titan Season 4 sees the Jaw Titan switching hands, with Falco inheriting Galliard’s powers after being turned into a Pure Titan. The transformation leaves him unconscious and with a gap in his memory. That gives Jean and Conny the chance to capture him, recognizing how useful his power could be.

But while Jean sees capturing Falco as a strategic move, Conny views it as a means to bring back his mother. Conny’s mom remains in Ragako village, a Pure Titan with limited mobility because of her shape.

Armin objects to Conny’s plan, realizing that killing Falco will only worsen tensions between Paradis Island and Marley. Reiner and Pieck won’t take kindly to losing their friend, and the duo could still wreak havoc with their Titan powers. Unfortunately, Conny makes off with the Warrior candidate regardless of Armin’s warning.

The end of Attack on Titan Episode 81 sees Armin agreeing to help Gabi get Falco back. In doing so, he hopes to secure her trust — and perhaps some sort of peace with the other Titan Shifters. The two don’t get a ton of screen time in Attack on Titan Episode 82. However, the latest episode does suggest they’ll have to be quick and clever to succeed.

Attack on Titan Episode 82 sees Armin and Gabi rushing off to save Falco, and they’ll have to make good time if they want to stop Conny. While Armin and his friends were fighting Titans, Conny rode on horseback toward Ragako. He also gained Falco’s trust, telling the boy he’s taking him to a hospital.

Armin and Gabi have a ways to go if they want to catch up with Conny and Falco, and they’ll have their work cut out for them when they finally do. As Mikasa points out, it won’t be as simple as telling Conny his mom needs to stay a Titan. If they do find him in time, Armin and Gabi can expect resistance.

As the Braun family parts ways with Gabi, they wonder if Conny will have second thoughts about killing a kid for his own gain. That seems to be Falco’s only hope at this point: that his captor’s conscience will buy enough time for Armin and Gabi to save him.

And as Armin tells Mikasa, saving Falco could dictate the future of humanity. Even if Eren takes out all their enemies outside of Paradis Island, the existence of the Nine Titans could lead to “another 2,000 years of war.” Armin hopes to prevent that from coming to fruition.

‘Attack on Titan’ Season 4 leaves Armin with a miles-long list of concerns

Saving Falco isn’t Armin’s only concern in Attack on Titan Episode 82. In fact, he uncharacteristically snaps at Mikasa over all the problems they have left to solve. The future of humanity is riding on their decisions, and it’s clear the pressure is getting to him.

When Mikasa asks what they should do about Eren, Armin declares that everything is in “chaos,” telling her, “I don’t have time to think about the bleak Eren situation!”

Among his other worries are Captain Levi’s and Hange’s fates, Annie’s potential escape, and Floch’s tyranny. Needless to say, making peace with the other Titan Shifters isn’t the only reason Armin needs to hurry. There’s plenty to address after saving Falco as well.

New episodes of Attack on Titan drop every Sunday on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu.
