August Alsina is speaking out more about his past relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith. Both Alsina and Smith have given their account of what occurred during their past romance, with Jada admitting to wanting to “fix” Alsina. Now, the singer is addressing Jada’s famous description of their relationship and explains in a new interview why he came forward.

August Alsina agrees with Jada Pinkett Smith referring to their relationship as an “entanglement”

Jada defined her relationship with Alsina as an “entanglement.” The two initially were close friends and Smith was instrumental in helping Alsina with his addictions and mental health issues. During her separation from Will, Jada admitted that the relationship with Alsina transitioned into a romantic one. It’s assumed that the relationship between Jada and Alsina lasted three years.

Fans were outraged at Jada referring to her relationship with Alsina as an “entanglement,” with many feeling it downplayed the bond the two shared. In a new interview with Vulture, Alsina explained that he disagrees with that criticism.

“I don’t know why that word is such an issue. I would agree [with Jada.] If you look up the definition of “entanglement,” it is a complex and difficult relationship. It was exactly that,” he said. “I think it’s just the language that probably stuck out to people. But I definitely have to agree with it being an entanglement. It definitely was something complicated, a complicated dynamic.”

Alsina also said he has not seen Jada’s record-breaking episode of Red Table Talk.

Alsina insists that Will was aware of his relationship with Jada, as the Smiths have both confirmed. He also says he knew that the complexities of the relationship with Jada were a distraction from his work as an artist. It has also been rumored that Alsina’s family was in opposition to his relationship with Jada.

Alsina says his sister’s death was a wake-up call for him to break off the “entanglement” with Jada. He maintains he has nothing but love in his heart for the Smith family and does not regret his past relationship.

Jada and Will have since reconciled following their private four-year separation.
