If you saw Avengers: Endgame, chances are you came out of it talking about who died, who did (or didn’t) return, and how this will affect the future of Marvel Cinematic Universe as it enters Phase 4 (or whatever comes next). This talk has been primarily focused on the core Avengers, but there are a few others who made a big impact in the film, and have earned our attention. Here’s a look at one of those characters (Nebula), the actress who plays her (Karen Gillan), and what we can expect to see from her in the coming years. (Very mild Endgame spoilers lie ahead.)

Wait — who is Karen Gillan?

It might surprise you to learn that this (above) is what the actress looks like. After all, she spends a lot of time in the makeup chair to look like Nebula, a blue alien from an unknown planet who is made up mostly of electronic parts at this point. But Gillan is actually a pretty recognizable actress, if you know where to look.

The Scottish (yes, you heard that right) star got her start as a model, before leaving it behind for acting. She appeared in both dramatic TV series and on sketch comedy shows, proving her diverse talent. The role that put her on the map was as Amy Pond on Doctor Who from 2010-2013, serving as the companion to the Eleventh Doctor.

After appearing on one of the U.K.’s most popular programs, it wasn’t long before Gillan made her way to the U.S. On the small screen, she starred in two distinctly different roles: As Daisy on Season 3 of the parody series NTSF:SD:SUV:: and as Eliza Dooley on the short-lived (but critically acclaimed) modern Pygmalion adaptation Selfie.

Her current (and future) roles

Right now, Gillan is involved in not one, but two big-budget franchises. In addition to playing Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films, she recently finished filming the upcoming Jumanji flick, a direct sequel to 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, in which she stars as Ruby Roundhouse, an avatar in the video game at the center of the story.

Additionally, Gillan has branched out as a filmmaker in her own right. Her directorial debut, The Party’s Just Beginning (which she also wrote), is available to stream on Hulu. Following Avengers: Endgame (and including Jumanji), she has four other films due out this year.

What’s next for Nebula?

OK, here’s where we’re entering slight spoiler territory, so beware. Nebula was a major part of Endgame: She led the Avengers to Thanos in the beginning, she traveled to Morag and inadvertently leaked the plan to collect the Infinity Stones — oh, and she even had to take out an older version of herself. Talk about busy.

She ends the film leaving with the Guardians in their ship, now (likely) a full-fledged member of the crew. We know that, barring any other James Gunn issues, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is on its way. Unless the film takes place prior to the events of Endgame, it would be very strange if Nebula wasn’t on board for that adventure.

Karen Gillan’s net worth

Seeing as she hasn’t been a part of the MCU for very long, and Nebula has typically been considered more a side character than a lead role, Gillan hasn’t raked in as much as many of her co-stars. Still, Celebrity Net Worth estimates she’s worth approximately $2 million. With any luck, this is a number that will definitely see a substantial increase in the near future.
