During a visit with his doctor, Drew is told he will need to get Gina’s medical history on her father’s side. However, Gina says her father died, so it might be difficult to get this information. Drew’s doctor says the surgery can still be scheduled without the father’s medical history, but this could put her at risk. If she has a family history of clots or kidney stones, she could be in danger.

Drew tells Gina the news, but she’s not sure how she can get the information. According to Gina, her father died 20 years ago after he was hit by a train. “Just tell them that my dad was a jerk, but he was incredibly healthy,” says Gina. Drew suggests she talk to her stepmother, Charlene, but they’re not on good terms. After some coaxing, Gina agrees to get in touch with Charlene.

Although Gina doesn’t seem concerned about the medical history, Drew is worried. Gideon and Jerry say he should call off the surgery if he can’t get the information. However, others say he shouldn’t turn down a donor over lack of medical information.

Gina agrees to visit her stepmother in person so she can learn more about her father’s history. After Drew presses her about accompanying her on the road trip, Gina confesses her father isn’t dead. She apologized for lying and said that she felt her father was “dead to her” because she hasn’t seen him since she was 10 years old.

Gina says her father got two women pregnant at the same time—her mother and Charlene, her stepmother. Her father chose to be with Charlene. Unfortunately, Charlene’s family didn’t accept Gina. She says she felt like Cinderella, only the mice didn’t talk to her.

Gina made excuses for why she couldn’t visit her dad and her father didn’t seem to care that she stopped coming over. It has been 25 years since they last saw each other. Gina blames him for some of the poor choices she made in life.

Norma and Gina get into an argument after she tells her it’s time to forgive her father. Norma thinks he might have changed after all these years, but Gina disagrees. Once Gina reaches her father’s house, she get’s shocking news. Charlene tells her that her father died the year before from a heart attack. She didn’t try to contact Gina because she didn’t think she would care.

Gina is upset because she didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to her father. However, Drew tells her you don’t have to go to a funeral to say goodbye. Drew suggests a grief exercise where she talks to an object and pretends it’s her father. He gives her a bottle of ketchup. Gina says her goodbyes and finally gets closure.
