Fans have been in love with Baby Yoda since The Mandalorian premiered on Disney + in November 2019. However, much to the horror of many, snagging a plush Baby Yoda simply wasn’t a possibility for the holiday season.

Fans across the globe began scouring Beyoncé’s internet to order an action figure or stuffed Yoga for their loved ones (or themselves), but they were met with a series of dead ends. Aside from the crafty people selling their own versions of the Star Wars character on sites like Etsy — Baby Yoda plush dolls, figures, and toys were pretty much MIA.

Baby Yoda is insanely popular

Disney CEO Bob Iger knew that fans of The Mandalorian might be thrilled by the appearance of Baby Yoda. However, even Iger said that the character’s popularity exceeded the company’s expectations by “a wide margin.” Still, there is a reason why Disney held becak on selling Baby Yoda merchandise.

Apparently, knowing that Star Wars fans would be delighted by Baby Yoda — The Mandalorian series creator Jon Favreau choose to channel Beyoncé. “We were talking about music and pop culture and [Donald Glover] was saying that what people really like now is to be surprised, because it doesn’t happen that much,” Favreau revealed. “When Beyoncé did an album, she would just put it online and everybody would react to it. Just putting it out there spurred a conversation that would become more viral and bring more genuine attention than any marketing.”

Disney’s Baby Yoda merchandise goes on sale in March 2020

Though they clearly missed their window of opportunity over the holiday season, Disney will finally allow Baby Yoda lovers to snag a plush toy doll on March 1, 2020.

The toy plushie is 11 inches tall and is currently available for pre-order for the prince of $24.99. “By holding back on that one product, we knew that we may have had the disadvantage of not having toys available day and date, but what we got in exchange was an excitement surrounding the character, because everybody felt like they discovered him together,” Favreau explained.

Baby Yoda is heading to Build-A-Bear

In addition to the merch sold through Disney, Build-A-Bear Workshops will be offering their own buildable Baby Yoda’s at their stores. Clearly Build-A-Bear knows a good thing when they see it, and they’ve already seen major success with Disney products at their stores.

“We are pleased to have seen a positive shift in sales trend as the fourth quarter progressed leading into the peak holiday period and sales have continued to grow post-holiday with stronger gift card redemption levels and positive consumer response to our newest merchandise offerings leading us to increase our guidance for the year,” Build-A-Bear CEO Sharon Price John said in a statement. “I’m excited to share we will be one of the first companies to provide the digital and internet phenomenon who is trending higher than all the presidential candidates combined … We now will have The Child, also known as Baby Yoda.”

It looks like the Baby Yoda craze is not about to die down anytime soon. Now, we just need to decide if he’s evil or not.
