Brendan Morais swept Bachelor Nation fans off their feet on The Bachelorette Season 16 with Tayshia Adams and Clare Crawley. Then after the contestant self-eliminated, some fans hoped to see him back on the franchise one day. But is Brendan willing to return for Bachelor in Paradise or even The Bachelor? Here’s what we know.

Brendan Morais is from ‘The Bachelorette’ with Tayshia Adams and Clare Crawley

Bachelor Nation fans got to know Brendan after Adams replaced Crawley as The Bachelorette Season 16 lead. Throughout Crawley’s portion of the season, Brendan hung out in the background. But he caught Adams’ eye on the first night and earned the new bachelorette’s first one-on-one date.

Brendan and Adams hit it off right away on The Bachelorette. The reality stars connected over their previous divorces. Then Adams even revealed she could see herself marrying the contestant. However, the couple’s spark started to dwindle as time went on.

During a group date, Adams had her Bachelorette suitors take a lie detector test. Brendan admitted he was worried about getting engaged and meeting the family. Even so, the cast member moved on to Hometowns. But soon after, Brendan realized he couldn’t continue the relationship.

“I still think there are pieces of myself that I need to pick up,” Brendan told Adams. “All I want is to give you my whole heart. But, as I sit here today, my heart isn’t whole. … You deserve a man who is healed from his past. And, unfortunately, right now, I’m not that man.”

Then Adams responded, “A younger version of me would’ve been really pissed off at you. But also, I know what you’ve gone through because we’ve both been married before. As much as I would love to be with you at the end of all of this, if you’re not ready, that’s not something I’m going to push you to do. I’ve already fought for someone to try and love me once. I’m not going to do it again.”

When Brendan sent himself home on The Bachelorette Season 16, it was clear he wasn’t ready for marriage. That said, some viewers questioned the timing of the elimination, wondering whether Brendan just wanted a shot at The Bachelor lead. But when speaking with Rachel Lindsay and Becca Kufrin on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, Brendan revealed he wouldn’t take the role.

“I don’t know if I would ever accept that role,” Brendan said of The Bachelor. “Truly and genuinely, that would be something I would have to talk to my family about and really think about. … I would be grateful for the potential opportunity. But I don’t think I would accept that.”

Brendan also suggested he won’t return to the franchise, even for spinoffs like Bachelor in Paradise

“I didn’t accept this amazing opportunity to be the bachelor or to go on Paradise. As I sit here, I don’t think I’ll ever do this again,” Brendan said. “As amazing as this was and as grateful as I am for this experience, I was like… I’m going to see if this will work for me. And by the grace of god, Tayshia came along.”

He continued, “Obviously, it played out as it did. Not the happiest of endings for me. But I’m not here to be the bachelor. That’s probably Ben [Smith]’s job next time around.”
