Disney announced a ‘Beauty and the Beast’ prequel coming to Disney+

It’s a tale as old as time with the original animated movie and live-action adaptation already available on this streaming platform. Most recently, Disney shared plans for another spinoff Disney+ original series in the works.

This one would deal with a beloved duo from the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, released during 2017. This would be a prequel series, according to The Hollywood Reporter, diving deeper into LeFou and Gaston’s relationship. However, there is no official premiere date for this television show.

Reportedly, there’s a spinoff based on the live-action ‘Aladdin’ coming to the streaming platform

As a live-action adaptation of the original movie, 2019’s Aladdin brought a few new characters to the cast. That includes the dim, but lovable, Prince Anders, portrayed by Billy Magnussen. A few months after the film’s release, The Hollywood Reporter stated a spinoff series, starring this character, is slated for its Disney+ debut.

The response to this announcement wasn’t exactly positive. Some Disney fans noted that Prince Anders, one of the only white characters from Aladdin, is getting a spinoff on Disney+, while at the same time leading actor Mena Massoud shared he couldn’t even get auditions. (According to IMDb, Mena Massoud will appear in the project, Lamya’s Poem.)

The new musical-focus of ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ is ‘Beauty and the Beast’

The first season of this Disney+ original series is already available for binge-watching on the streaming platform. There, viewers met high school students as they put on a stage production of High School Musical. This series isn’t technically a spinoff, although it does include much of the music from the Disney Channel original movie.

It was recently renewed for a second season and thanks to an Instagram post, fans learned what musical the cast is putting on this year — Beauty and the Beast. There’s no officially premiere date, yet, but some speculate season 2 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series debuts during Fall 2020.

Other Disney+ television show spinoffs in the works include ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,’ ‘Monsters at Work,’ and ‘WandaVision’

There are a few spinoffs set for their Disney+ debut, based on characters in the MCU. That includes WandaVision, Loki, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, all advertised during the 2020 Super Bowl.

Pixar has its own set of spinoffs already available for binge-watching. That includes animated shorts based on the Toy Story 4 characters, Forky and Bo Peep. In 2021, Disney will release a Monsters Inc.-inspired series, Monsters at Work.
