Uncle Phil withdrew from the district attorney race during ‘Bel-Air’ Season 1 Episode 9

Bel-Air Season 1 Episode 9, “Can’t Knock the Hustle,” kicked off with the Banks family attending church as Uncle Phill (Adrian Holmes) continues his political campaign. Carlton (Olly Sholotan) starts with his rendition of Marvin Sapp’s “The Best In Me,” but he has a panic attack halfway through, resulting in him running off stage.

After speaking with his cousin Will (Jabari Banks), the lacrosse player reveals his diagnosed anxiety and tendency to use drugs as a coping mechanism.

Following the conversation, Carlton claimed he flushed the drugs, committed to dealing with his anxiety sober. Additionally, Aunt Viv (Cassandra Freeman) is offered a spot in the art fellowship, which she wants to accept. However, the artist is aware of her demanding home life, especially as Phil runs for district attorney.

Shortly before the debate against former family friend Fred Wilkes (Joe Holt), his daughter and Will’s girlfriend Lisa (Simone Joy Jones) learned of her father’s intent to use Will’s arrest against Phil in the debate. After warning him, the aspiring DA withdrew from the race to focus on his family and encouraged Vivian to accept the fellowship.

Will might meet his father in the ‘Bel-Air’ season finale

When Vy (April Parker Jones) visited the Banks mansion for Will’s birthday, she told her son the truth about his “conning” father, Lou. Interested in meeting his father, the teenager asked Geoffrey (Jimmy Akingbola) for assistance in tracking him down. The request put the house manager in a bind as Uncle Phil previously told Geoffrey to keep Lou away from Will.

Feeling conflicted, as he has his own child, the house manager gave the teenager a file on his father but warned him that opening it could lead to drama. As a result, Will gave the information to Phil, noting he preferred not to cause any trouble.

The aspiring DA then confronted his assistant, but Geoffrey admitted he would protect the Banks family at any cost, even if they meant defying Phil’s orders. As a result, the patriarch fired his house manager but let him take an emergency leave of absence not to set off any red flags.

He withdrew from the district attorney race following their heated exchange. In the season finale, Will may meet his father anyway. During the sneak peek, the teenager confronts his aunt and uncle about lying about Lou before an unknown person rings the Banks’ doorbell. When Phil opened the door, he didn’t seem happy to see the guest. The Bel-Air Season 1 finale airs March 31, on Peacock at 5 a.m. EST.
