Inside Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s Massive Thanksgiving Fight
Though they are now divorced — actors Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have been committed to maintaining a healthy friendship and a good co-parenting relationship for the sake of their three children. Unfortunately, it has not been an easy road for the former couple.
Affleck has openly struggled with alcohol and substance abuse, with Garner often being his anchor and the one to lead him towards treatment and rehab. Though the Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice actor has had bouts of sobriety — he’s recently fallen off the wagon.
This past Halloween, Affleck was photographed intoxicated as he left a party. Though he’s always been open about addressing his issues, this had led to a massive blowout fight with Ganer over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Garner has always been the one advocating for Affleck’s sobriety. In fact — it’s the main reason the pair took so long to get divorced. “Jen wanted to give Ben the time and opportunity to work on his health and sobriety…she isn’t in a rush,” a source told Us Weekly before their divorce was finalized. “Jen just isn’t willing to settle the custody issues until she’s 100 percent certain that he’s clean/ She’ll wait for him to prove he is taking it very seriously.”
In the midst of attending his Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and working on his steps — Affleck also began dating Saturday Night Live producer — Lindsay Shookus. Though the pair are no longer in a relationship it was troubling for Garner because she felt that sobriety was no longer her ex-husband’s main priority.

Affleck and Garner are used to spending time together for the sake of their children. Therefore, their Thanksgiving weekend started off well. The pair were spotted taking their three children to the movies with Affleck’s mother.
Lather, the family went Christmas tree shopping to begin preparing Garner’s home for the holiday season. The pair share joint- custody of their children so it’s always been important for them to remain a united front, especially during major events like the holidays. Unfortunately — their pleasant weekend ended in a mega blow-out fight.

Unfortunately, the holiday spirit between the co-parents faded the day after Thanksgiving. On Friday, Nov. 29 — Affleck and Garner were spotted outside of Garner’s home having a tense and animated discussion. Witnesses noticed Affleck using forceful hand motions.
Later, Garner was spotted jumping into Affleck’s car and driving him to a “remote hotel near Santa Barbara.” Since the actor has a home near his ex-wife’s house, and Garner was the one behind the wheel, it is likely that this blowout argument was about Affleck’s sobriety.
After addressing his slip this past October — Affleck made a donation to The Midnight Mission, a charity that helps feed the homeless. He said at the time, “I have been in recovery for over a year and part of that is helping out others.”
