Dwight Schrute
Dwight is not amused by Jim’s pranks in The Office | NBC

The Office has been a fan favorite since 2005 for many reasons. As a “mockumentary” it was one of the first television series in the U.S. to be filmed about a fake cast in a documentary format. While the ongoing laughs that have made the show a hit come from multiple sources, one of the best (and most remembered) occurred during the Jim/Dwight pranking wars.

While Dwight got Jim a few times, Jim Halpert’s pranks were far better. But which of those were the best? Check it out.

Jim pranks Dwight with Jell-O

The very first prank that Jim Halpert pulled on Dwight Schrute was also among the best. Jim encases Dwight’s stapler in a Jell-O mold and then hides it under his desk. When Dwight finds this strange concoction, he immediately blames Jim, who gets indignant and asks how he knew it was him. How? Jim was eating from a giant pot of Jell-O.

Dwight can’t outsmart the Benjamin Franklin impersonator

Instead of hiring a stripper for Phyllis’s bachelorette party, Jim hires a Benjamin Franklin impersonator. He then spends the evening trying to convince poor, naïve Dwight that the guy is the real deal. Dwight eventually becomes so confused and frustrated that he starts screaming … and audiences everywhere couldn’t help but fall into stitches.

The joint debacle

marijuana overdose
Jim Halpert and Dwight Schrute from The Office debate whether Dwight has memory loss from a marijuana overdose | NBC

When Dwight finds a leftover joint in the work parking lot, he uses his status as Deputy Sheriff to interrogate everyone. During his interview with Jim, Jim manages to convince Dwight that it was him who smoked the joint but he just doesn’t remember, because marijuana causes memory loss.

Jim: “Marijuana is a memory loss drug, so maybe you just don’t remember.”

Dwight: “I would remember.”

Jim: “Well, how could you if it just erased your memory?”

Dwight: “That’s not how it works.”

Jim: “Now, how do you know how it works?”

Dwight: ” Knock it off, okay? I’m interviewing you!”

Jim: “No! You said I’d be conducting the interview when I walked in here. Now, exactly how much pot did you smoke?”

Jim convinces Dwight to fight himself

While Dwight is trying to teach the office workers how to defend themselves, Jim suggests that nobody is worthy of fighting Dwight except Dwight. Jim then asks how Dwight would defend himself against his own strength. Dwight proceeds to beat himself up while Pam uninterestedly sips tea in the background.

Dwight gets recruited by the CIA

Jim doesn’t do this one alone, but the prank is among the most epic The Office has ever produced. Pam organizes an elaborate prank on Dwight as a Christmas gift to Jim. The prank involves sending Dwight “secret messages” over several months to convince him that he has been recruited by the CIA.

In the beginning, Jim states he doesn’t want to take part of the prank but he later changes his mind. He convinces Dwight that he has to destroy his phone because it’s compromised. Oh, and the cherry on top? Dwight’s “subtle” undercover outfit includes a bright orange hat that could be seen for miles.

When it’s Thursday, but Dwight thinks it’s Friday

Jim (with the help of faithful sidekick, Pam) convinces Dwight that it is Friday when it’s actually Thursday. Dwight is so well convinced that he misses the following day of work, thinking it’s Saturday.

What makes this prank even funnier is that (ironically) Dwight had just been bragging about how he had never been late to a single day of work. But we’re pretty sure that a “no call, no show” is much worse than being a few minutes late. But hey, that’s just us.
