Better Call Saul fans quickly fell in love with Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton) even though he’s a bona fide villain.

He’s an important member of the Salamanca family who works for Don Eladio and the Juarez Cartel. Lalo is energetic, irreverent, and ruthless. He’s also missing from Breaking Bad except for one small mention, which seems to indicate he gets killed by the time Walter White comes along.

Lalo survived an assassination attempt at the end of season 5. But will he live or die when Better Call Saul wraps up in season 6?

Developing a prequel is tricky for writers who don’t want to conflict with existing content. In the case of Better Call Saul, that meant paying strict attention to every detail about Saul Goodman, Gus Fring, Mike Ehrmantraut, and the overall Breaking Bad storyline.

Saul gets kidnapped by Jesse and Walt during Breaking Bad season 2. Thinking they’re cartel associates, Saul says, “It wasn’t me; it was Ignacio! Did Lalo send you?”

This throwaway moment becomes the basis for two major characters on Better Call Saul. And even though Saul saying Lalo sent someone indicates he’s still alive, there are two theories that could point to his demise.

Lalo might be dead without Saul Goodman knowing it

The ambush on Lalo occurs at Lalo’s house in Mexico. He escapes, but there’s a chance everyone could think he is alive even after Nacho murders him, or he dies some other way. The point is Saul/Jimmy might believe Lalo is alive even if he isn’t.

Lalo is a worthy adversary for Nacho and Jimmy because he’s smart. The final scene of season 5 shows the cartel member bent on revenge for the massacre at his house. But he was almost murdered in his own house so it’s not unbelievable to consider that Lalo dies south of the border during Better Call Saul Season 6.

Now that Jimmy knows his life and Kim’s life are both in danger because of Lalo, there’s also a chance he could orchestrate Lalo’s death along with Mike and Gus. But since Don Eladio wouldn’t approve of the hit, he’d have to keep it a secret or risk inspiring the wrath of the entire cartel, Screen Rant points out.

Following this theory, when Saul delivers the line, “Did Lalo send you?” he’d actually be bluffing about the possibility that Lalo was still alive. It’s clear that Saul thinks Walt and Jesse (who are wearing face masks) are cartel associates. So he’d have to keep up the deception that Lalo was still around for their benefit.

Lalo’s fate will certainly be revealed in Better Call Saul Season 6. Fans are anxious to discover what happens to him and the other new characters who don’t make it to the Breaking Bad universe.

Better Call Saul Season 6 is slated to premiere in early 2022.
