Beyoncé and Jay-Z have established themselves as entertainment royalty, and there’s no question that they live like it. The couple are known for their lavish lifestyle, and their combined net worth of over $1 billion has given them the freedom to purchase anything they want.

Although the couple owns numerous properties in several locations, they spend the majority of their time in a luxe Los Angeles mansion they purchased in 2017, tucked in the neighborhood of Bel Air. Many people already know this, but few know the details behind their flawless compound.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z spent years searching for the perfect home

Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s journey to finding their perfect LA home was not an easy one. At several points, they’d found a property they were interested in buying but were outbid.

According to CNBC, the couple had initially found a 23,000-square-foot home in Beverly Hills by luxury builder Bruce Makowsky, but before they could purchase it Minecraft creator Markus Persson outbid them. He threw down a whopping $70 million for the purchase, which was a Beverly Hills real estate record at the time.

Undeterred, they continued their search and landed on a traditional 10-bedroom home in Beverly Hills. However, their $49 million offer for the home fell short of one by fashion designer Tom Ford, who put down $50 million to purchase the property.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z finally found the perfect home in Bel Air

After months of searching, the couple discovered a modern mansion built on Cuesta Way in Bel Air and began negotiations. The Carters initially bid a mind-boggling $120 million for the luxurious home, but eventually, the price dropped down to $90 million and then finally $88 million.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z closed on the home in August 2017, according to the Los Angeles Times. It was LA’s most expensive real estate transaction of the year, and it’s easy to understand why. The two took out a $52 million mortgage to buy the home, which would total more than $250,000 a month on a 30-year fixed, per CNBC.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Bel Air mansion sounds more like a superhero hideout than a home. According to Hello Magazine, the massive estate sits on 1.88 acres and has eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a 15-car garage, four pools, a basketball court, and a ton of other lavish features. Its windows are made out of bulletproof glass. And it’s stocked with state-of-the-art security technology to ensure their family’s safety.

Inside the home, there’s a walk-in wardrobe for Beyoncé and Jay-Z to house all of their designer looks with floor-to-ceiling windows and warm light bulbs. The kitchen has wooden floors and large patio doors for easy access to the outdoor area, and there’s apparently an additional living area that was added under one of the pools.

Outside, the home features an extremely long limestone driveway with massive iron gates separating the property from the outside world. There’s also a wooden terrace that allows them to overlook their entire property, and basketball and tennis courts are in place to keep the family fit.
