Beyoncé earned a nomination at the 2020 Golden Globes

You may have seen her champagne moment with Reese Witherspoon at this award show or the Ivy Park x Adidas collection drop the following week. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter earned a Golden Globe nomination, thanks to her role with Disney’s photo-real adaptation of The Lion King.

The song that earned her the Best Original Song nomination, “Spirit,” appeared on the soundtrack for the major motion picture, in addition to Beyoncé’s album The Lion King: The Gift. However, the Golden Globe ultimately went to “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” from Rocketman.

Beyoncé did not earn an Academy Award nomination for ‘Spirit’

Is 2020 the year Beyoncé earns an EGOT? Earlier in 2019, the artist was snubbed of an Emmy award for her Netflix special, Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé. She earned nominations in six categories, including outstanding variety special (pre-recorded) and outstanding writing for a variety special.

Unfortunately, Beyoncé will have to wait a little longer to earn an EGOT. Although “Spirit” earned nominations at multiple award shows, fans shared their surprise that this artist didn’t earn an Academy Award nomination. Instead, songs from Toy Stoy 4 and Frozen 2 scored in the Best Original Song category.

Beyoncé earned multiple Grammy nominations for ‘Spirit’ and her ‘Lion King’-inspired album, ‘The Lion King: The Gift’

Inspired by the story of The Lion King, Beyoncé released her own album, entitled The Lion King: The Gift. Including “Spirit” and clips from Disney’s photo-real adaptation, this album featured artists and producers from Africa, highlighting African music and culture with each song.

“This soundtrack is a love letter to Africa, and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it,” Beyoncé said during an interview with Good Morning America. “We’ve kind of created our own genre, and I feel like the soundtrack, it becomes visual in your mind. It’s a soundscape. It’s more than just the music because each song tells the story of the film.”

The Lion King: The Gift even earned a Grammy nomination for the upcoming award ceremony, for Best Pop Vocal Album. “Spirit” grabbed nominations in the categories Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Song Written For Visual Media.

Additionally, Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé earned a nomination for Best Music Film. The “Love on Top” artist is a frontrunner in many of these categories and some fans wonder if the artist can walk away with a few awards at the upcoming ceremony. The Grammy Awards take place on Jan. 26, 2020.

Music by Beyoncé, including the album The Lion King: The Gift, is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and most major streaming platforms.
