The Bey Hive is alive and well on June 21, after receiving new music from Beyoncé — “Break My Soul.” This song featured a sample of the “well-known” house song, “Show Me Love” by Robin S. Of course, Beyoncé added her own lyrics to this hit, ushering in her Renaissance era just weeks ahead of her album’s debut.

Another notable voice in this production was that of Big Freedia, a rapper who previously collaborated with Lizzo, Icona Pop, Kesha, and RuPaul. Following the release of “Break My Soul,” she shared her reaction on social media.

“It feels surreal to be on the track with the Queen Beyoncé once again. I’m so honored to be a part of this special moment. I’m forever grateful, lord,” Big Freedia tweeted. “Someone please catch me.”

Big Freedia said it was ‘surreal’ being featured in Beyoncé’s ‘Break My Soul’

While on the Formation World Tour, Big Freedia appeared in person to introduce “Formation,” saying the iconic “I like cornbread and collard greens” opening line. Big Freedia was also featured in the Lemonade visual album during this song.

The Big Freedia song referenced in “Break My Soul” was “Explode,” where she rapped, “Release ya anger, release ya mind. Release ya job, release the time. Release ya trade, release the stress. Release the love, forget the rest,” in the second verse.

In a separate tweet, it was confirmed that the “Break My Soul” YouTube Lyric Video debuted at #7 on YouTube’s top worldwide trending videos. Big Freedia retweeted the update, writing, “Forever grateful for these moments.”

Other artists collaborated with Beyoncé on ‘Break My Soul,’ including Jay-Z

Beyoncé is credited as the main artist for this June 2022 single. However, Queen Bey worked on “Break My Soul” with other musicians. Her husband, Jay-Z is credited as a composer and lyricist. The-Dream, who worked with Beyoncé on “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” and “XO,” was also one of the “Break My Soul” collaborators.

“I love making you guys happy, and even if for a second I can give anything of myself to help get you through a moment in these crazy times. I’d use my entire heart to do so,” he tweeted. “No one’s f****** sleeping tonight! @Beyonce We have done something special yet again my good friend.”

“Break My Soul” is just one song included on Beyoncé’s upcoming full-length album, Renaissance, which is “Act I” of presumably a collection of music. The album includes 16 new songs from this artist and will be available on most major streaming platforms on July 29, 2022.
