Many of the ‘Big Little Lies’ cast members knew each other before filming the show

So what accounts for the chemistry between the cast? Some of it is likely due to talent and sheer good luck. However, it also doesn’t hurt that many of the women knew each other long before Big Little Lies. For example, Shailene Woodley had worked with Zoë Kravitz on the Divergent movies. Meanwhile, Woodley portrayed Laura Dern’s daughter in The Fault in Our Stars.

But the connections weren’t exclusively professional. Some members of the Big Little Lies cast had more personal relationships years before they began filming. Nicole Kidman, for example, knew Kravitz when she Kravitz just a teenager. Kidman actually dated Kravitz’s father, Lenny Kravitz, and the pair were secretly engaged. Naturally, Kidman developed a relationship with Zoë also as the pair were spending time together.

In an interview with The Edit, Zoë reflected on the connection she had with Kidman in her early teens. “I hadn’t seen her in a long time before Big Little Lies, but there was a point where we were all kind of living together,” the Insurgent star revealed. “I was about 13, and she would take me to see movies; she was so nice to me.”

Continuing on, Zoë shared that she was thrilled to be cast alongside Kidman in Big Little Lies. However, she did find Kidman’s talent to be distracting at times. “She can be quiet and shy, which is interesting because the beast of an actress that she is, is so loud and clear,” Zoë shared. “She’s so good that sometimes it was distracting. After every take I wanted to just stop and say, ‘Wow.'”

Kidman was also exceptionally complimentary of her fellow Big Little Lies castmates. She shared that in their adult life, they’d formed a special bond. “I feel protective, like a big sister, toward her,” Kidman shared with Elle about Zoë. “She is carving her own path with confidence and grace. She’s having a big moment now, but it’s only going to get bigger. She’s a triple threat because she can dance, sing and act. She is deeply feminine, and she always smells so good!”

Will the pair reunite again for ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3?
